My programming blog
Who are you?I'm a college student working on a bachelor's degree in Computer Science starting in Fall 2016. I've been programming basically since I started high school, so you could say this is kinda my thing. Aside from programming, I also enjoy reading books, writing stories, basically anything relating to Batman or - even better - Nightwing, cuddling with my cat, going to church, and being sarcastic (not necessarily in that order).
Okay, then... So what am I funding? Here's the thing: I like writing, whether it's stories or code. You'll find me active on my GitHub profile, which shows what I have recently been writing code for, and posting blog posts and stories on my website. The more people who support me in doing these things, the more time I can spend doing them. These things are also hosted on servers I pay for, so I'm actively spending money on being able to do these things. Your support means I don't have to drain my savings account or work full time on other things to keep doing the things I love.
Code: If you are supporting me for my coding projects, you will be funding my open source programming career in general, including these projects:
Click the links to learn more about each project.
- A website theme for Hugo, written from scratch. A lot of work has already gone into this theme to make it robust and configurable, with more to come.
- A small utility that builds flashable zip installers for Android from a simple configuration file. It is the only tool of its kind that I can find that does this much of the work for the user.
- Form-handling server software written in Go that can send form submissions to email, file an issue on GitHub, send a message to a Slack/Matrix/etc. channel, and so on. Development on this one has not started yet, but will start soon.
- Other server software built to work with static websites, to make them more featureful while remaining privacy-friendly.
Stories: I like to create stories. Over the past few years, I've written a number of stories with friends through role-playing over text (imagine one person writing a paragraph of the story and sending it to the other person, who writes the next paragraph and sends it back, etc). It's entirely possible that the first few stories I write for Patreon will be based on these storylines. My first story, in fact, is based on storyline my friend came up with (used with permission, of course).
In terms of genres, I'll write just about anything, excluding romance and erotica. Stories may contain some non-erotic romance in them, but that'll be a side plot at best. My deepest apologies to those who were looking for those kinds of stories. I prefer to write (and read) psychological thriller stories, though your typical action/adventure stories are fun too. Dark things may happen in my stories; "they all lived happily ever after" is a bit too cliche for my tastes.
And, really, you're funding my college education. If I can raise enough monthly support here on Patreon, I'll be able to make this my source of income in college, which means I won't have a job getting in the way of me working on cool things! ;)
