My greatest passion is for speculative fiction, sci-fi and fantasy infused stuff that is philosophically and psychologically challenging.  When I was a kid I liked futuristic technology and magic because it was 'cool'.  Now I realize that raising the limitations of our familiar way of life by means of, say, atomic fusion- and fission-based manifestation allows for the appropriate levels of wonder and awe necessary to get people excited about the ethical and existential dilemmas that I care about.   Some of my most important life lessons I have stumbled upon within complicated situations in my own works of fiction.

Secondly, I am passionate about music.  The reasons why I value my audio-art is fairly abstract, and I don't wish to bother you with aesthetic arguments.  Basically, my inspiration comes from medieval folk music, eighties and nineties video game music, and various forms of EDM and metal and is typically actualized in the forms of heavy dance music and progressive metal.  I've been trying to incorporate more of my philosophical ideas in to my lyrics, but in music my first concern is melody/harmony.  My second is progressive arrangement.  My third is mood/atmosphere.

I also write a philosophy blog that deals heavily with human relationships, some times touching on other subjects, including world building for my fictional universe.  By nature, this can be expected to have finished products the most frequently.

Getting the hang of my preferred game engine has only just begun, so there's no need to discuss video game endeavors further yet.

Honestly, I've gotten to the point where every step of the way to creating a new piece is absolutely free of charge.  I already own word processors, recording equipment, my preferred digital audio work station and plenty of plugins, the game engine that I want to start with, and do all of my own visual art work.  So why become a patron of Shyft VahtiDahl?  Well, when there are bills to pay, money must be earned, and where there is money to be earned, there is time spent earning it.  I have a psych degree, but don't expect to get much use out of it, and, if I do, it will most definitely never escape a full time position.  These are of course time consuming, not to mention known for sending a lot of stress home with you; both of these downfalls greatly slow the creative process.  I've written a six hundred page book in four years while working full time at a job that I hated.  I've written a book of the same length in three years while going to school full time for a degree that was fun to pursue some times.  When I'm happy, healthy and have the time, I can write stories and songs for ten hours at a time, forgetting to eat, long in to the night.  When I'm happy, healthy, and have the time, I can give my art the promotion that it deserves (some thing that I typically shy away from).  When I'm decompressing from work, worried about bills, and telling friends and loved ones to leave me along while I get some work on my projects done... well, I'm not here to whine.

Once I dreamed of becoming a wizard.  Now my dream is to have supporting evidence that creating art and thinking about the big questions in life are my work.  I don't have any expectation of running out of ideas any time soon, with hundreds of unfinished songs that I still care about and a dozen novel-sized stories on the back burner.  My only worry is being able to afford to be a full time philosopher-artist.

+Access to my high school blog, once Xanga finishes their upgrade.  A horrible, embarrassing place, but the place where my early story inspirations were experimented with and expressed.  WARNING: contains eye-roll-inducing offensive language, obvious logical fallacies, bigotry, and general stupidity.

Well, jeez.  You're already single-handedly paying for my monthly food bill.  If we're in the same area, we might as well share some eats some time.

Food, insurance, rent, 'standard' student loan payments, automobile fuel, and a little money left over to save all covered!  I am officially a full-time artist and philosopher at this point.  Not a thing could ruin my mood at this point in my life, and you'l get to hear all about how much you mean to me.  May be nicer equipment in the near future!  Golly!
