About Sidra Owens

Matters of Personal Bliss:

My name is Sidra Owens, and I am a writer of fiction. I can’t say that I have a specific genre that I focus on, because I don’t. I just tell the story that needs to be told. In April of 2017, I self-published my first novel, “A Haven Amidst Perdition,’ and currently, I am working on my seventh. I do not have the backing of a literary agent or a publishing house, which is why I need additional support in order to fully develop my writing career.

Many times I’ve said that if I could write full time every day, I definitely would. Writing brings me a profound amount of joy, whether working on the latest chapter of my book, making a blog post or jotting down a haiku, the deep happiness that it gives me is undeniable. But unless you are one of the lucky few whose first book is a bestseller and, you are immediately thrust into the limelight, allowing you to quit your day job, then like the rest of us, you have to nine to five it to survive.
So now that I have my first book published, I am embarking on this endeavor to extend my reach, connect to those who would enjoy my work and my musings, in hopes that one day I will be able to do this full time, and devote the space in my brain that I designate for balancing work and the rest of my life, to integrating consistent writing with the rest of my life. (That was a long sentence, wasn’t it?)

I love fiction. I’ve been hooked ever since I bought my first Nancy Drew Mystery in fifth grade. Reading fiction compels the mind to lay the landscape however you see fit, based on the criteria that the author has set. That means that with the same book, each reader can have a varied and contrasting experience. As I get older, and as the need for instant gratification becomes more pervasive in our culture, I see that the need for fiction is far greater now, than it ever has been. And if you want to skirt past all of the subtext, I have stories to tell. I want to trigger you. I want you to smile through the happiness, laugh through the silliness, weep through the sadness, seethe through the rage, and succumb to arousal. I want my stories to stay with you, long after you’ve read them. And the truth of the matter is that I have so many stories to tell, the sooner we can come together as author and audience, the greater the complete satisfaction will be.

Matters of Necessity:

In order to devote a larger part of my life and time to writing more fiction, whether novels or short stories, I cannot divide my life between work, family and writing. Above all else, I need to be able to care for and provide for my family.   Monthly subscriptions will eventually be able to replace the income provided by my day job, allow me to continue to self-publish/edit the manuscripts that are in waiting, as well as being able to attend writers' conferences and lease venues for book readings/signings.  It will also allow me to further create my writing space; that little space that all writers have or need, where they can tune out the world and let the creativity flow.  A writer's den takes time, work, and money to maximize productivity.  My den is slow in the works.  I have a laptop; I have the desk, but foremost for me, is the ideal, ergonomic chair, so that I can type comfortably and not end up walking like a drunken mummy (Lower back pain is a mutha).

I'm sure if I sit here for long enough, I could compound this list, but I don't want to do that.  What I want to do, is thank all of you for taking the time to stop by and read this.  I want to thank those who have supported me through words and deeds, and I want to thank any future subscribers for believing in my work.

Goals
$0.95 of $10 per month
When I reach $10 per month, I will squeal with delight and amazement that you all like my work enough to help me out.  Much thanks.
