About the dark side of consulting and other [often boring] stories

INTRODUCTION

About decades active as an independent one-man consulting operation for very demanding major international financial institutions and other multinational corporations in countries and areas such as the America's, Africa, Iceland, Siberia, Baltic States,  Caribbean, Europe, etc., etc.

Short stories not necessarily because of the inherent excitement, but mainly because of the educational aspects. While I do not consider myself a teacher - or for that matter -a professional writer - I do have a unique story to tell.

For medical reasons my time is limited and due to treatment and medication my condition is of varying quality, which often has a serious impact on my productivity. As this still  is a work-in-progress - that requires much time and effort - some kind of financial support will enable me to speed up the progress, hence the engagement of Patreon.

The short stories provide a random selection of real events as experienced by me in the course of several decades. The professional activities mainly included roles as a global corporate finance banker, an international financial consultant, a project manager and as a company doctor, plus - for sake of variation - several essays will be included that cover non-commercial activities. However, the role of 'financial consultant' is most dominant and according to some initial proof readers most educational.

Extreme care has been applied to delete all identifiable and sensitive details. For legal protection the contents are labelled as 'fiction'. The ownership belongs to me.

BACKGROUND:
For many years I have worked as an independent financial consultant. If nothing else, these essays will illustrate that having been a multi-lingual former senior corporate banker [officially ten years as Vice President with a major international bank] , plus having a very diverse and multi-facetted personal profile, does not automatically qualify a person to be an independent international financial consultant.

Advanced technical skills and experiences in the fields of advanced  management, financial engineering and credit analysis are insufficient.even if supplemented by a skills set of advanced financial mathematics, project management, public relations and electronic processing, Having these skills is clearly not sufficient but, of course, it helps. Although these skills are useful and even indispensable, they only rank as supplemental to the application of advanced skills in the fields of negotiation skills and psychology.

Application of human interaction skills and psychological insight is vital
together with a high level of applied scepsis, healthy suspicion and - last but not least - a competent level of insight in bureaucracy and corporate intelligence systems. Therefore, the short stories heavily concentrate on the description of the human aspects of the various cases. As a consequence, the essays can be rather detailed and some readers may find it boring., in particular if primarily interested in the financial details and the constructions of complex financial models,
Complicated financial constructions and details are barely covered.
First of all because of the very limited applications of resolutions for a particular project, as each project has its own characteristics.
Secondly, the description of the delicate construction details of a project, even if dated many years ago, may unintentionally reveal a profile - or even the identity - of certain participants, institutions or companies. This could be a breach of the fiduciary - never expiring - responsibility in the fields of confidentiality and trust.

A consultant should always be the definite and undisputed leader in charge of the particular project for which he has been contracted. Change management or detection of irregularities often triggers an ugly and threatening environment for the consultant. His task is not to be popular, but to produce a successful completion of a project, as contracted. Therefore a main challenge is to detect and to address internal sabotage. Often it proved necessary to erect an informal, covert network of loyal informers in order to detect and to preempt serious project threatening developments.
Skills they don't teach you this at business school.

Thank you for your support.
Any support is greatly appreciated.
It will speed up the production and completion of this effort.

This project - still a work in progress - started at the beginning of 2019.
New stories will regularly be added.

Enjoy.

A regular monthly contribution of $5 is invited but it will not buy special privileges because access to my articles is - and will remain - free.
However, financial contributions are invited and encouraged because they will enable me to speed up the research and - especially - the editorial services.
Obviously, larger lumpsum donations are more than welcome and are greatly appreciated.
