Happy pride! Get access to my game defibrillator when you become a patron this month!

Welcome!

My name is Sisi, and I’m an independent developer who makes Twines (and other things, but those won't be the focus of my Patreon).

For the purposes of Patreon content, I’m going to assume that you are an adequate writer in a traditional medium. You don’t need any prior coding experience.

Who is your content for?

You’re here because you’re a traditional writer with an interest in interactive narrative, a junior games writer, or you’re an industry veteran who wants to support emerging game narratives (and learn a thing or two). My content is probably more directly applicable to independent game developers, Twine makers, or any writers who are looking to branch into interactive fiction.

I mostly make games in Twine. That does not mean that my games lack design complexity. I believe that the design lessons are applicable more broadly in game development. Even if you’re an engineer, I believe that you stand to benefit from learning about how narrative design can be applied to any game involving story or text.

What do I get for being a supporter?

Right now, you’re getting blog posts, or advanced access to my games. I'll usually be updating every month with one or the other. You would get access to design breakdowns on my games (which are already pay-as-you-want on itch.io). I’ll be talking about why certain design choices were made, as well as how I implemented them.

At first, a lot of my instructive content will be focused on the "how-tos" so patrons can get familiar with the tools before digging into the design ideas.

I’ll only be talking about my own games so that you can get an intimate view of how I make creative decisions, and which features I choose to cut. I will also be posting occasional articles about the business of being a freelance game writer.

Additional Patreon tiers will allow you to solicit my feedback on your projects. Since you're supporting me monthly, you effectively get a discount off my usual consulting rate.

I’m not very good at code.

Seriously, don’t worry about it. This Patreon started off as a way for me to help my game writing friends who were put off by Twine forums. If you’ve wanted to go beyond simple text markup (bold, italics) but you didn’t understand the documentation, then my Patreon is good for that. All my code talk will be in very simple, plain English.

What are some of the topics that you’re going to cover?

This is not an all-inclusive list, and the content order may change. I will be creating one post per month. Additional content will depend on the amount of support that I can crowdfund, in additional to my own freelancing schedule. If I am exceptionally busy during a month for any reason, then I will be sure to "pause" payments on this Patreon and notify you.
