Comics, plus an art and music space
Publishing your favorite comics since 1986, clearly too stupid to quit, too mean to die.

Milestone Goals
Payroll
For this amount we will cover most of our payroll, including a small salary to me (which I have not taken on a regular basis since 2008).
Rent, payroll, salary and building improvements
IF we make this goal, then I, for the first time in six years, will be able to draw a small salary for publishing comics. I will also be able to make some physical improvements to our current building that will make us a better and more efficient business.
About
I wasted my entire life on comics.

Founded in 1986, SLG Publishing (which, for the uninitiated, stands for Slave Labor Graphics) has been publishing comic books which, for the most part, have gone against the grain of what is currently popular.
To that end we have been the place where some of your favorite cartoonists and creators have gotten their first publishing experience. The list has a load of familiar names on it including:
Jhonen Vasquez, Roman Dirge, Evan Dorkin, Faith Erin Hicks, Charles Soule, Van Jensen, Ariel Schrag, Andrew Hussie, Ethan Nicole, Serena Valentino, Ted Naifeh, FSc, Andi Watson, Derf, Norman Felchle, Chuck Austin, Jim Rugg, Brian Maruca, and many others.
In addition to all that in 1986 SLG Publishing founded The Alternative Press Expo (APE), the granddaddy of Indy Comics conventions, and recently has reacquired the convention which we will once again run.
Years of running a for profit business as if it were a non-profit, SLG made it's own name by investing in unknown creators and giving them an opportunity to shine on their own with little editorial interference and shielded from the harsh economic realities of the publishing world.
Very few of the comics we publish contribute to the overhead of running a full-time business which is why in 2009 we started The Art Boutiki, a brick-and-mortar space which, among other things, hosts live music and art shows to help contribute to the overhead. Most of the events hosted at Art Boutiki feature local musicians and artists.
There are a number of expenses on a monthly basis which go along with running a full-time business, be it comics, music venue, art gallery, or what-have-you. So we will be using the money contributed here to help pay rent, utilities and payroll for our small company so that we can continue to invest our time and energy into introducing the world to new talent, be they comic artists, musicians or fine artists.
In addition to funding our publishing activities, getting funding through Patreon will allow us to add additional staff to help run APE in 2015.
