SoHo Shakespeare Company ...
Telling our stories from unexpected perspectives

Like the fox, forever digging and diving, theatre must always look to uncover hidden truths by listening to the people in all our glorious diversity.

Last season, SoHo Shakes's premiere of The Sisters played to sold out houses at The LATEA Theatre in Manhattan. Having just produced our workshop presentation of Mary Rose, or The Woman Who Died Twice, we're excited to announce our coming plans! Prepare yourselves for two cabarets, a very special event (ooOOooOoo the mystery!), and our main stage production, Le Tartuffe Orange (The Orange Hypocrite), adapted from Molière's Tartuffe.

SoHo Shakes continues to pave the way for women and non-men creatives. Our two cabarets this season—Fierce, produced in concert with Board Member Angela Lavery, and The Lady Doth Protest, co-produced with The Mechanicals Theater Company and the LATEA Theatre—feature performers from vast and diverse backgrounds, with nearly all women and non-men creative & production teams. In fact, out of nearly 40 people working on these projects there is only one man, our Artistic Director Alex Pepperman.

We would love for you to be a part of this movement, and we need your help!

Running a not-for-profit theatre company is no easy task. Just like The Public Theater (Hamilton: the Musical) and the Roundabout Theatre Company (A Soldier's Play), we rely on our donors to keep our doors open.

Here are just some of our costs from mounting last season's productions:
$30,000  Theater Rental
$5,000 Sets & Props
$3,000 Marketing & PR
$2,000 Sound
$1,300 Costumes
$1,000 Lighting
Our coming productions will have similar costs . . .

And that's not even including artist fees!
All of the artists, designers, and creators involved in SoHo Shakes productions are paid for their time and efforts. However, our company members who steer the ship every day, including our Artistic Director and our Executive Director, volunteer their talents and hundreds of hours every month. With your help, everyone can receive compensation for their creations.

How would you like to support innovative theatre while becoming an investor in an amazing not-for-profit company?

Your donations will help make possible ...
  • art that celebrates racial and gender diversity
  • actor/director/designer/tech crew pay
  • expanded programming: Shakespeare scene study classes, writing labs, audition technique workshops
  • audio and video content: trailers, readings, performances, etc.
And all it takes is a monthly subscription for as little as $3/month!

Thank you so much for your consideration and we hope to see you soon!!!
