What we do, in a nutshell: Widen people's perspectives, through hands-on crafts and tinkering, empowering themselves, that,"anybody-can-create-energy".
Your donation will allow Solar Power Roadshow to re-run our arts-science activities while videotaping for distribution to a wider audience.
Please help us re-launch Solar Power Roadshow which went dormant in 2009. (You'll notice that some our websites' downlinks such as Geocities and YahooVideo are dead.)
What beneficial new ideas does Solar Powered Roadshow intend to present in hands-on workshops and events, that will be added to future videos, for Patreon sponsors? Among others, the effect of magnets on non-magnetic matter; a real Philosopher's Stone; purifying water by non-UV light, solar panels with 20%+ efficiency and simple applications, running a PA system at a festival without gas generators, Iceland's 100% clean energy demonstrations for kids; overcoming the 5 major hurdles in long-term bicycling communting; and, fixing ~66% of all electronic failures (e.g. camcorders) in minutes (already completed at Silbury School, but the "how" has not been made pubic).
Solar Powered Roadshow has already inspired thousands of people to "do something" for themselves, and for this planet.
Why are we doing this?

COPD is already quietly heading to be the no. 1 killer.
It may be debatable whether future generations will be affected by Climate Change. (We believe there is Climate Change.) However, it is known that PM2.5 pollutants are making the city air smoggy, and an epidemic of COPD (the disease) has arrived; you'll see people who cannot ride diesel buses (yeah, public transit) because COPD makes it impossible to breathe. There are class action lawsuits because of diesel exposure.
One of our good friends is affected by COPD already. Did you know that if you drive in one of the middle lanes in a four-lane roadway, you're likely breathing 20 million particles, per breath? In comparison, a pedestrian on the sidewalk nearby is breathing "only" 7 million particles per breath. A bicyclist (yes, we bike, as well as e-bike) on that same roadway breathes around 10 million particles per breath. A study alleges 3.6 million yearly deaths.
Matthies' electric bike with 100-watt flexible solar panel, 8% efficiency
How did Matthies start this? After reading the policy-level book, "Lives Per Gallon", Rob sold his car, and used electric bikes. "Ebike Bob" created the "Kyoto Bike Discounts" in Vancouver. Rob got his ebike friends with bicycle trailers, to do charity work, delivering day-old bread from Commercial Drive's bakeries to the United Gospel Mission in Vancouver's downtown eastside. Rob also hosted over 10 electric bike shows, and got city councilors, including Suzanne Anton (now the Hon. Suzanne Anton, Q.C) to attend. During a visit to Salt Spring Island, Rob met the manufacturer of educational model solar car kits -- then an idea popped in his head -- Solar Powered Roadshows!

Solar Power Roadshow's early years (preceeding the Tesla electric car) included showing off the famous Revived Battery Electric Pickup Truck, a licensed vehicle that gets 518 MPG-e (Miles Per Gallon-equivalent), and stores energy in 'dead' (i.e. free, no cost) batteries.
The Revived Battery Electric Pickup Truck has 10 breakthroughs and work-arounds, which appear to have been incorporated in Chinese electric 2-wheelers as well as the Tesla car. This pickup truck inspired thousands of people, and was featured on nightly news, radio, newspapers, and magazines. Here's the revived battery truck beside the Swiss-made Solar Taxi in the SolarTaxi's round-the-world trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtCbw9k71dg
Solar Powered Roadshow also rode around Metro Vancouver with the "Tap Water Scooter", running on 2/3 gasoline and 1/3 water. As seen on TV, as they say. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4U-7nFOLDg
The scooter was a donation by Scooter King in Langley and Keeway Scooters Canada, to provide mobility for our tree-saving technology. Matthies and other tinkerers modified this scooter. The group formed to go around Vancouver, reviving trees that were near-death from pine beetle infestation. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9699a_tap-water-... (Sadly, this 'save-our-trees' crusade which was covered heavily by the media, failed, because the general public proved hugely apathetic.
Worse, a parallel effort in California got tangled up in a bureaucratic mess.)
On a positive note, the Tap Water Scooter inspired many people, even kids, government officials, to see that, 'anybody-can-create-energy', which is the goal of Solar Powered Roadshow's presenters.
Our mission is, in a fun way, to enpower kids from 4 to 104 years old that they can do something for themselves, rather than wait for a "solution" from Big Government, or Big Organizations. We also ran solar-car-racing fun workshops at senior homes, and gave talks/workshops at civic and youth organizations, schools, community centres, and adult classes. "Doing something" involves tinkering and creating, DIY, or Do-It-Yourself. Mayors from the West Vancouver, the City of Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver, and Richmond BC, applauded us.
Can something **really serious** be delivered by Solar Powered Roadshow? Yes, it's proven, and people said so, themselves.
Patreon members can help us by funding our activities. With Patreon funding, we can be at more fairs and festivals without depending purely on sponsors such as Vancity, Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, Streamkeepers' societies, Chevron, credit unions, and TD Friends of the Environment.
Our presenters are paid hourly, and we do not have any full time people. Our group is made up of like-minded individuals.

Re: "Lives Per Gallon" - authored by a State of California policy analyst. The "lives" lost are real people, including drivers of dinosaur-fuel. How? Even when your car's engine is off, it will still emit toxic fumes for hours, allegedly shortening your life. Matthies used mostly ebikes, the e-truck, and e-scooters from 1999 to 2009. Is Matthies, therefore, healthier? Circa 2015, he successfully hand-wrestled an entire Abbotsford youth wrestling team, losing only to a huge young man, the biggest on their team. (It's on YouTube.)
Why did Solar Powered Roadshow go dormant? There were many other interesting projects happening, and key performers graduated from their respective universities.
The Revived Battery Electric Pickup Truck: Chosen, in 2008, by "Canadian Business" and "Vancouver" magazines as one of the top key ' green' inventions. Some of the 10 breakthroughs and breakthroughs were discovered by gifted kids during Solar Powered Roadshow's workshops. These breakthroughs are now in the public domain.

The Tap Water Scooter's superior performance and cleaner exhaust were tested and shown on TV news, as well as the world's #1 scooter magazine, Twist 'n Go, published in the UK.

"Discovery" vs "Didactic" learning, with fun. Solar Powered Roadshow classes used mostly a "discovery" approach, which resulted in the discovery that anybody-can-create-energy!

Why did China suddenly start making 32 million ebikes and e-scooters a year? Matthies opines that it is not because of Lithium batteries. Matthies opines that it is because the non-cogging hub motor (also a generator, as in wind-generators) was perfected in Asia circa 2007. "Non-cogging" means no Back-EMF to drag the motor down. Therefore, almost 100 percent efficiency -- real numbers, not the efficiency calculated using IEEE methods. Matthies' friend has a related patent. Matthies bought one of the first e-scooters in Vancouver using this electric motor that does not get hot, even at low-RPM's, that would burn out other motors quickly. (Matthies ran into David Suzuki at an electric bike shop, right after Suzuki bought one of the first Prius' in Canada. Coincidentally, Matthies also socialized with Suzuki's pro-environment activist daughter, Tamiko, and learned that "earthing", grounding the human body to the earth's Schumann Wave, was a First Nations practice. Matthies and Tamiko rode electric scooters, too.)
