About Soundsphere magazine

So, I/we've been doing this about ten years! I (Dom) at the helm (managing the website, and posting content) with a host of freelance writers, college and university interns and just all around good people (from all around the world) helping me out - conducting interviews, reviewing bands, going to gigs and all that good stuff.

I pride myself on the fact that some of the writers that have worked with us have gone on to work for The Guardian, Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, The Independent, Metro and other well established, and respected media outlets. In addition to this, I provide creative workshops for young people across the UK in journalism, and entrepreneurship who perhaps don't have the resources to move to the UK's media capital of London - as well as succeeding in business with a disability (I have Cerebral Palsy). Many times over these ten years, I've been paid for this work (writing as Soundsphere, and academic workshops), and a lot of the time I've done it for free.

Honestly, I'm not in it for the money, I want to support other less-fortunate people who haven't had as many opportunities to create cool things, and I want to provide a platform for new and emerging bands, so they don't have to pay mega ad fees for exposure. How have I made it this far? I work as a freelance journalist full-time, and my income from various clients helps me run the website, and pay other freelancers for their time.

Throughout our history, I/we've interviewed bands the likes of The 1975, Royal Blood, While She Sleeps, Weezer, Rammstein, Judas Priest, Cage The Elephant, Frank Turner, Incubus, Gary Numan, Frank Iero (My Chemical Romance), Joey Jordison (Slipknot), Scroobius Pip and hundreds more! Check the website out, it's likely we've worked with someone you've heard of!

Alongside world-renowned bands and new, emerging up-and-coming artists in the indie, electronic, rock and metal spheres, we've also worked with personalities the likes of renowned magician Dynamo, cosmetics icon Kat Von D, Ric Flair, Mick Foley, Chris Jericho, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus (WWE). If you have no idea who these people are, then do take a look at the website, I hope that you find a band (or artist) that you like!

We also do charity gigs and fundraisers for charities including CALM, and Samaritans! Oh, and we've just started doing documentaries too! There's an example of what we do included on this page - a recently-commissioned documentary created by students at our Hull College in the UK, about disability and the music scene in our current home city.

I don't need any money from you, but if you read an interview on Soundsphere (or discover your new favourite band) and think 'Oh, I'd buy Dom / Soundsphere a pint, or a coffee for $1', then that's cool, and this is a way for you to support me, and in turn I can continue to support others with your patronage.

Much love, and many thanks,

Dom x
