Blake Lovell is creating the premier online resource for SEC basketball fans

I've covered the NFL, college football, college baseball, and even golf throughout my career as a sports journalist.

However, SEC basketball has always been my area of expertise, which is both a gift and a curse.

Unfortunately, publications aren't exactly knocking down your door just to have you cover SEC basketball.

That's why I chose to start my own SEC basketball site, Southeast Hoops. It started as nothing more than a side project to my other freelance writing work for various publications.

But as I built the site, I watched the readership grow higher and higher. That led to the realization that fans of many teams around the league were actively seeking more basketball coverage.

The coolest part of the site's growth? I've had SEC coaches, members of the league office, and passionate fans reach out to thank me for my continued coverage and support of SEC basketball. That is an added motivator in providing this increased daily coverage that everyone can enjoy.

In SEC territory, football is king. You know that. I know that. But I'm also aware that there is a fervent SEC basketball community that is itching for extended coverage on their favorite teams even when football takes center stage (which is the majority of the calendar year).

And why wouldn't such a community exist? The conference sent three teams to the Elite Eight last season, and the 2017-18 season will be an even bigger step forward for a league that's never been as bad as its national perception.

With all of that in mind, I have decided to go all-in on Southeast Hoops as a premier resource for SEC basketball fans. In addition to the regular news and analysis that I'll provide each day, I'm going to take it a step further by offering additional in-season and offseason coverage for subscribers of one of the following subscription tiers.

For only $1 per month in the NIT Champion tier, you get:
  • Access to subscriber-only articles
  • Access to a daily SEC basketball podcast (Monday-Friday)

For only $2 per month in the NCAA Champion tier, you get:
  • Everything in the NIT Champion tier
  • Access to a weekly podcast for each of the 14 SEC schools (team-specific analysis, interviews, etc.)
  • Access to my SEC basketball live-chats via the free Patreon app

For comparison, it now costs more to buy an Egg McMuffin at McDonald's than it does to subscribe to all of this additional content.

Now that's a deal.

Do I expect thousands of people to subscribe? Of course not. This isn't about getting rich. If it was, I wouldn't have built Southeast Hoops and edited hundreds of hours of audio on my Marching to Madness podcast for free over the past year.

However, I do want to provide additional content and audio/video resources for fans that are looking for additional coverage of their favorite players and teams.

The majority of my written work on Southeast Hoops will still be free of charge.

All the subscription-only content does is allow me the opportunity to create higher-quality work for SEC basketball fans. It will allow me to produce more podcasts, develop more great resources, and travel around the league to provide gameday coverage at numerous schools this season.

For those that choose not to subscribe: I still want to thank you for supporting all of the free content available on Southeast Hoops. As the site continues to grow, I hope to add more incentives for on-the-fence subscribers to finally make the leap to enjoying subscriber-only content.

For those that choose to subscribe: I can't thank you enough. I realize that there are lots of ways that you could spend your hard-earned money, and for you to monetarily support my SEC basketball coverage means the world to me. You're now a part of an enthusiastic basketball community that will grow larger and larger by the day.

As great writing continues to get pushed aside in favor of sports personalities engaged in a shouting contest to see who can have the hottest take, my goal with Southeast Hoops is to continue providing in-depth coverage of a booming basketball conference that still doesn't get the amount of love that it deserves.

Thank you for your support.
