Hello Everybody! Chandra Free here. Welcome to my Patreon page! As most of you know I’m the creator of the darkly humorous comic, THE GOD MACHINE graphic novel series. I’m also an&nbsp; illustrator, comics artist and writer. I’ve been in the industry since ~2006. Clients have included Disney/Fox, SyFy, Jim Henson, and more.Things have changed drastically for me since 2024. I started that year with a bang! I was continuing my comic series, doing client work, doing illustrations- it was a great time! I however pushed myself to the no return point…Since my early 20s I’ve had wrist issues that has kept me back from producing more in my life. Despite my doctors not knowing what is wrong with my wrists, I have managed my pain for years and was able to still do an average amount of work in the illustration and comics industry. 2024 I pushed myself beyond what I typically did, and I did not recover like I usually had when I hurt myself doing art. I found myself unsure who I was, and did a lot of self discovery and mental healing. It was a grave and dark time for me, but I found my light.The God Machine has always been my baby. Since it’s first weird steps in 1999, to it’s leaps and bounds as I grew as a person. Originally it was intended to be a black and white comic series so I could get it out fast and effectively. HOWEVER, an amazing man who changed my life, Mark Smylie, went on to publish me. His stipulation was that God Machine had to be in color. I am grateful for this, it’s a beautiful book, but highly impossible for one person to do, especially with wrists issues.The God Machine helped me get into the industry, doing other comics projects, and unique illustration opportunities. Life also threw me some curveballs, and since delayed this story being told via comics.Which brings us to current day. Through the grieving process and learning what I can and cannot do, I have developed a passion to learn how to write beyond comics, to learn how to write prose! For years I had no interest of doing so, but also I felt like I wasn’t cut out to be a writer of that elk. I’m very typo heavy, and technical writing is not my forte I’ve told myself for years. But something inside me said, “don’t give up on The God Machine, learn how to write.” Imposter syndrome has been a major factor in not getting into prose sooner, but here I am, making it my new passion project. Well, same passion project, just new taste! ;)This Patreon is my “behind the scenes” look into my world as I am learning how to write YA prose, and giving you all the look at my rough drafts. I encourage all of you to be a part of the process as I endeavor to make a novel series.Okay, so some of you who are new here might not know what The God Machine is. And with it turning into a YA prose series, it changes what The God Machine is a bit.THE GOD MACHINE is a YA novel series that explores the psychological world of a young man whose life is riddled with torment and confusion. It’s a coming of age drama about love, loss, monsters, and the politics of Gods!Here’s the low-down:&nbsp;“Guy Salvatore is stricken with sadness and guilt. His world no longer makes sense. His girlfriend has died and he’s seeing monsters. Are they manifestations of grief or something more? A strange man in a graveyard tells Guy that his girlfriend is indeed alive, floating in and out of the “Dream Worlds” and that only Guy can save her! However, the Gods stand in his way of happiness. Could this be the uniting of young lovers or the end of everything else?Welcome to The God Machine, a story that delves into one boy’s struggles with depression and the supernatural. Populated with crazy Gods, terrible monsters, and offbeat goth friends!Let me take you on a trip, around the world and back…”The first graphic novel was published by Archaia, then got picked up by Titan Comics. Then Titan finally passed on it after years of not pulling the trigger to publish it. In 2022, I self-published the reprint edition “re:VISION” through Machina Corpse via Kickstarter patrons! A lovely hardbound 180-page tome, with new scenes, bonus content, and much more. Which you can still purchase the first graphic novel (digital edition) here in my store.But you might ask yourself, what’s new? A LOT.&nbsp; I’m adapting volume one of the graphic novel of course, but also adding and subtracting things that are in the comic. And then adding volume two and three comic scripts and adapting those into the first novel. The tone is turning a bit more serious with a flourish of humor. What worked in comics doesn’t tend to work in prose. SO!
