My Dad is my hero! As a kid I watched him play music and I wanted to be just like him. I’ll never forget being gifted my first guitar and how frustrated I was when I realized I couldn’t play like him. He kept encouraging me though, and eventually, I started to keep up.

At 21 I had the opportunity to try out for NBC’s talent show, The Voice. I made it to the top 150 and got cut because they said I didn’t have a “story.” I thought they were looking for talent, but I learned that’s not enough. So, I headed to Nashville to make a “story” for myself.
I lived in my truck for six months and said “yes” to every opportunity that came. It was an amazing adventure and I learned a lot about myself and about other people. I kept a journal about it and the interesting people I met every day. Then the time came for me to move out of my truck and get back to the reality of living an adult life. I had to keep moving forward.
<figure></figure>
Soon after attaining a more comfortable place to live, I started to play the comparison game. I just didn’t understand why I wasn’t getting any traction and it seemed everyone around me was advancing. I felt like I was being left behind, and I started to get bitter.
A close friend confronted me about how I had become a different person. I realized that he was right and I stopped playing music so I could figure out who I wanted to be as a person, not just as a musician.
<figure></figure>
In my year-long sabbatical from music, I rediscovered my love for it and my love for other people. I found peace and direction and yes, love. I started to write songs again and started playing around town. Then I got a call from a friend who asked me if I was ready to make a record. It just felt right. I'm a big believer in timing, and everything about the timing of this was right for me. I knew this was the time I get back to doing what I was put here on this planet to do. This is the time, I risk it all and go big or go home. This is the time, I take what I've learned and build something new for the RIGHT reasons. This is where I become the best version of myself.
<figure></figure>
So if you can relate, and want to join this ride with me, make a pledge and let's see what happens when we reach outside ourselves and ask for help. Let's see where believing again takes us. Let's do this as the new person we've become not in spite of what's happened (or hasn't happened )to us, but because of it! Let's go together, and let's make music that changes the world by changing people's perspective.
