I'm Stacy Davidson, and I'm creating a hard boiled science fiction PC game full of bubble helmets, rockets and rayguns!
BUT WHAT'S THAT GOT TO DO WITH MINIATURES, STOP MOTION CREATURES AND ALL THAT?
Excellent question! What, indeed? Let me 'splain...
Where a typical game might feature 3D generated graphics either rendering in real time or pre-rendered to create the backdrops, what I'm doing with Jack Houston is something... pretty different.
Each character and creature in the game is hand sculpted in clay, then carefully molded and cast in foam latex with a metal armature so that it can be posed properly. The puppets are then airbrushed and detailed before being animated and photographed in stop motion, sometimes at various angles for proper 360' rotation.
The backgrounds are also built as miniature models and photographed, sometimes integrated with real world photography in a digital matte painting. As you explore the game, you will be immersed in an environment so real, you'll feel as though you can reach inside the screen and touch it.
The idea is to evoke the feel of classic science fiction/fantasy films that featured beautiful, epic worlds realized through models and glass painting shots, and Ray Harryhausen films like 20 Million Miles to Earth, The First Men On The Moon, Jason And The Argonauts and Clash of the Titans which featured bigger-than-life beasts created with stop motion techniques.
SWEET! SO, HOW CAN I HELP?
This is the super rad part where you can become a member and get involved with my completely bizarre creation!
As I work, I will be chronicling the entire game development. This means the design, writing, coding, fabrication, sculpting, molding, casting, kit bashing and modeling of the characters, creatures, robots, rocketships and sci-fi landscapes will all be captured in monthly columns, PDF newsletters, live streaming, vlogging and the Fantasy Workshop BTS video series!
To keep this adventure going, I need to be able to purchase special tools, supplies such as resins and plastics, silicone and foam rubbers, molding materials, modeling clay, glues, foam boards, styrene, and on and on and on. YOU can help me in one of two ways:
1) Donate the stuff I need directly from my AMAZON WISH LIST.
(My address will become a shipping option when you checkout)
2) Become a member here on Patreon for as little as $1 a month!
At this point in the process, I really count on every dollar that comes in via Patreon, and in return I try to make my patrons feel appreciated with features like exclusive update videos, an exclusive monthly blog, The Observatory PDF newsletter and lots, LOTS more!
You will also receive my undying gratitude as an awesome supporter of this unique, challenging (and slightly insane) endeavor! Thank you for being a part of the adventure!
-Stacy Davidson, crazy person.
