About

"As an author, speaker, disability advocate, and trauma
survivor, Stephanie partners her unique humor and wit with the unashamed acceptance of struggle in the present tense. Her radical candor and transparency paired with her extensive work exploring the theology of suffering for her book, The View from Rock Bottom, make her viewpoint vitally refreshing in an industry often overrun with relentlessly positive and ultimately empty affirmations. Stephanie has harnessed her experience, writing her intimate understanding of pain into messages that foster healing within the Kingdom of God."

In keeping very "on brand" for me, I'll be uncomfortably honest here. Typically, I view Patreon as a way to recognize how much content creators, advocates, activists, and educator deserve to be compensated for the labor we benefit from. But in this case, I'm asking you to see this Patreon as something a little bit more...

This is a chance for you to help correct some of the systemic barriers that keep disabled women like myself from being proportionately represented in publishing, in speaking opportunities, and in platform.

Here's just one example from many:

Because I'm disabled, my medical expenses are incredibly disproportionate to my family's income. Support from patrons not only provides the funding for me to be able to create, educate, advocate, and minister well, but it also provides the desperately needed resources to pay for medical insurance and the costs of my care. Every day I worry that my choice to pursue calling over profit is placing an undue burden on my family, and that it's putting my safety at risk. I feel more called to this work than ever, with a renewed sense of passion and purpose, and a clarity of vision like never before. But without meaningful support from generous donors like you, I simply can't sustain the work much longer - let alone grow this with the myriad of ideas, dreams, and hopes for the bigger things yet to come.

If disabled voices are going to be heard, we need to intentionally seek to lower some of the barriers that keep them from coming to the table. Supporting the work of disabled content creators, activists, and leaders through Patreon is a tangible way you can help to seek restorative justice and address some of the added barriers they face.

Im deeply grateful for the support of patrons who see value in my work, and who are committed to ensuring I can meet my basic needs for healthcare access and a baseline income that allows me to continue to write, speak, educate, advocate, minister, and serve.
Goals
$375.06 of $1,600 per month
I recognize this is a HUGE goal, but it's a goal with a vital purpose:

$1600 a month is what I need each month for my health insurance premium.

That doesn't cover any of the costs of copays, prescriptions, supplements, mobility aids, and the additional therapies that insurance doesn't cover. It also doesn't cover any of the added costs of simply existing as a disabled person, the various tools and services we rely on to be able to make life accessible to us in an inaccessible world. And it doesn't cover any room for a "salary" for me, some sort of profit from my work to use on more than just survival.

But it's the baseline amount I need to maintain access to medical care.

Ultimately, I would say that staying alive is one of the more vital components to being able to do this work. It's a bit of a priority for me really. Definitely number one on the list.
