About Steven Allain

My name is Steven Allain and I'm a herpetologist based in the UK. For those of you that are unfamiliar with herpetology, it is the study of reptiles and amphibians. I've been studying these magnificent animals since 2012 and I'd like to share my stories, adventures and research with you all! With your support, I can also dedicate some time to producing outreach materials so that we can inspire the next generation of conservationists and herpetologists!

My journey started at university, where I was investigating the microhabitat preferences of great crested newts. Doesn't sound very fun, but I was knee-deep in ponds at unholy hours of the morning to collect my data. From there I then went on to look at the effects and impacts of the amphibian chytrid fungus, which has been implemented in the decline of thousands of amphibian species and the extinction of hundreds. I'm currently working on my PhD investigating the population dynamics of barred grass snakes and the effects of another disease, ophidiomycosis.

It doesn't stop there. I also publish a lot of my scientific results and observations, of which you will get the inside scoop on if you become a patron. I'm also interested in photography and I hope to share some of it here for you all to enjoy.

Once we reach 15 patrons I shall unveil a project I've been working on behind the scenes for some time, that I'm quite proud of!
