I make guitar effects pedals based on classic circuits and modern improvements.
I also design circuits and PCBs for DIY projects.

I'm also part of the tracing and reverse-engineer community over at Freestompboxes.org where we trace vintage and boutique guitar pedals circuits and electronics to acquire knowledge for a myriad of reasons, for example:
  • To find out how they work and what makes them tick
  • Why they sound a certain way and what differentiates certain circuits from other circuits
  • Because there is no information available to repair them

Another focus is tracing boutique and unobtanium "holy grail" pedals that are too expensive or rare for the average player to get, as well as gooped pedals that are actually hiding a dark secret, like being ripped off from another well-known circuit or a simple tubescreamer with LEDs.

This Patreon was created to collect a "Tracer's Fund" of some sort, to allow me to acquire these pedals and, if possible, trace them and share this information with interested DIYers all over the world for a small contribution.

Usually the process of tracing a pedal involves either tracing from pictures which might be inaccurate and yield a circuit with errors and best guesses, or buying this pedal with my own funds from my day job and doing the necessary work to trace its circuit.

Sometimes this involves unsoldering or degooping components that might get damaged or at least diminish the pedal's value which means I am reluctant to really dig in as I might not be able to recoup my investment. Patreon helps in the sense that I don't have to worry about this investment, as tracing the circuit fully is my first priority, even if it means destroying the circuit. If this happens I plan to repair the pedal and do a give-away to all patrons.
Tiers
simple support
$1 or more per month

simple support of the suchhardman Tracer's Fund to allow me to create new content

suchaharddrive development
$5 or more per month

Creating a discrete overdrive  that combines a JFET preamp to overdrive a Germanium transistor for natural tube-amp like overdrive.

Echoczar Quad XV support
$15 or more per month

I have an Echoczar Quad XV in my possession that I'm planning to trace very soon if interest is high enough. This tier is to offset any costs I might have from damaging it during tracing (it's built like a matryoshka doll).

If the full amount is reached, I will take it apart completely even if it means deliberately destroying components.

Once the full circuit is completed, I will make and offer PCBs to build your own.

Random PCB subscription
$15 or more per month only 10 left

I will send each patron one random suchahardman-designed PCB once a month.

These will be high quality and professionally fabricated, the exact same boards I also use for my products and projects.

Goals
$0 of $1,000 per month
When I earn $1000, I will completely tear down my personal Echoczar Quad XV, dissect everything even if it means desoldering components, release the complete circuit and get the ball rolling for a DIY project PCB layout. These PCBs will then be sold to the community.
