My name is Sunny and you can find more of my work here: www.sunnyjreed.blog.

I write extensively on race and color's impact on transracial adoption, often calling for critique on the child welfare system's integration of children's cultural needs within foster care and adoption. Through my work, I hope to not just change the public's perception of transracial adoption, but the larger system, as well.

As a transracial adoptee, I've shared my story through social media and my blog, weaving in my life experiences with academic studies, social listening, and compassionate critical thinking. To that end, I've committed myself to CASA volunteering, a role that gives a voice to a child in the child welfare system.

But this isn't about me.

My work is for every single voiceless child who comes after me and my fellow transracial adoptees; those children who are adopted into loving but culturally incompetent homes. My goal is to shift the value of "love is all you need," to one of "love an adopted child by confronting their racial experience in this country, not by being colorblind."

Every child of color experiences racial bias and judgment in this world, perhaps even within families who adopt them.

My goal is to reform a system so it's in complete favor of their unique racial and cultural needs, helping to build truly strong adoptive homes for them, so they live fulfilling lives both with their families and in their own skin, no matter its color.

I started out doing the research independently, funding the article requests, website hosting, travel to public events, etc. My work, particularly on Twitter, has reached and educated thousands.

But I've hit a financial roadblock and want to continue, but need some help. Thank you so much for reading and for your support!
