Alexis Turner is creating the untold history of acid

I am a historian of science interested in what happens to science and technology when it escapes the laboratory and goes into the wild. I am currently working on a dissertation / book tracing the political lives of LSD in the US between 1949 and 1980. For the curious, there are some more in-depth details about my scholarship on my website.

Since I have been told it's tacky to say that I will use your generous donations to buy myself tequila and cowboy boots and take pretty ladies out on overly expensive dates, rest assured that your dollars will be used to fund important researcherly excursions to archives across the country; interviews with old hippies, scientists, politicos, drug smugglers, art historians, and black radicals; and crashing in strangers’ homes from Fort Worth to Bern and everywhere in between. Any tequila drinking and dining out that takes place as part of this are regrettably necessary sacrifices for such dangerous and important work. As a way to say thank you, I will send you, my patrons, exclusive updates on my adventures and discoveries in the form of videos and stories from the road.
