Welcome to my Patreon fundraiser, version 1.0, supporting my ongoing social dance history research and writing!  This is at the "soft launch" stage until I get a video up.  I am still tweaking goals and rewards and learning to use Patreon.  Feedback is welcome!

How does this work?
Patreon is a subscription crowdfunding model for ongoing work, rather than for one-shot projects like Kickstarter or Gofundme.  When you become a Patron, every time I publish a post (other than a gig calendar or other advertisement) on Kickery, or some other piece of writing elsewhere, it will trigger a small payment from you, according to your pledge amount. This will be billed via credit card once a month.  At different levels of pledges, starting as low as $1 per post, you will receive small rewards from me; scroll to the bottom of the page to see the specifics.

In general, I will keep writing blog posts, furthering my research, and doing dance reconstructions, and will share my weird little insights, strange bits of dance historian humor, and personal thoughts with you here via my Patreon feed.  If my monthly totals pass certain stretch goals (shown at left), I will start to add bonus material with special access and input from my Patrons!

I have never yet managed more than eight posts in one month, but if you are concerned that I will suddenly run mad and churn out a hundred posts, you can set a monthly maximum.  And this is not a lifetime commitment. You can drop out or change your pledge level at any time!

Who am I and why am I asking for crowdfunding?
I am a social dance historian.  "Social dance history" means that I study not theatrical dance forms like ballet but the dances that people did socially in times past.  I'm freelance, earning my living by teaching social dance (mostly historical, but some modern forms as well), conducting balls for different groups, and lecturing.

I am an expert on nineteenth century social dance and, in particular, one of the world's foremost experts on the social dance of Regency England (Jane Austen and all that).  My studies also range broadly from the late 15th century into the early 20th century with a few later excursions (like my peculiar passion for 1970s disco line dance!)  I am particularly interested not just in how to do specific dances but in the broader social context of the ballroom, the evolution of dance forms over time, and the people -- the dancers and dancing masters -- who originally brought the dances to life.

For the last 7+ years, I've been writing a blog about social dance history, Capering & Kickery, which now has over 500 posts, all freely available.  These range from specific how-to posts on different dances to reviews of dance music CDs to discussion of social context, literary references, and historical dancing masters.  I urge you to check it out to see what you would be supporting!

I am deeply committed to continuing to make my research and reconstructions freely available on my blog, and hope that with the support of a group of Patrons I will be able to expand my research, spend more time writing on a regular basis, and work on some of the larger projects which need sustained time and focus to complete.

Thank you for your support!

You are clearly a saintly sort of person, so I will not cheapen your generosity with further bribes.  I am stunned, honored, and very, very grateful for your support.  (You still get all-of-the-above as well!)
