TAOFLEDERMAUS is creating Youtube videos

A few years ago,  the idea of asking our viewers to help fund this channel seemed ridiculous.
It was my goal to put a lot of effort and money into creating videos to the point where I could do it full-time and it would sustain itself through ad-revenue alone.   Quitting my job was not done hastily.   I carefully monitored channel growth over several years.  Things looked secure,  and it looked like growth would continue.  I continued to work my full-time job for a couple more years while I produced videos as often as I could.    I had to pay a ton in taxes from "double-dipping".   Once I was convinced it would be safe to quit my job,   I basically retired early to focus entirely on YouTube.
About a year after that,   YouTube started putting the "squeeze" on many channels while heavily promoting other channels.   The first impact was being being "restricted".   If viewers did not have "restricted mode" turned off,   our content was invisible to them.   This set us back a few years.  Views (and earnings)  were reduced by 50%.

The next big hit was the "adpocolypse"  This was when large advertisers suddenly started pulling their ads because they did not want to be associated with "extremist content".  YouTube created an algorithm that tried to determine what was advertiser-friendly,  and what wasn't.   Unfortunately,   this labelled MANY videos that were completely ad-friendly as "not friendly"  and suddenly many channels were getting hit unfairly.  YouTube promised the system would "learn"  and improve in accuracy,   but  this has not happened.   Video creators had to get very creative as what to put in the title or tags as using the wrong WORD would get a video demonetized automatically.

YouTube thought it would be a good idea for viewers to flag videos-  which "helps" the algorithm determine what content is "safe" or not.   What could go wrong?   Of course,  people abuse things like that,  and groups can attack in swarms to flag perfectly acceptable videos.

Recently,  viewers have been telling me that when they try to subscriber to my channel,   they have to have their device set to allow  "inappropriate content".   Yes,  to YouTube,  my channel  is "inappropriate" -  whatever that subjective terms really means.

The last impact was YouTube's recent rules on gun-related videos.   One could no longer put links to ammo,  accessory, or gun manufacturers.  (as well as a few other obscure rules such as "manufacturing ammo"   etc.    Channels scrambled to delete videos that MIGHT violate these rules,  in a panic.

So this is where we are today.   YouTube has attacked us on many fronts to demonetize and demoralize us out of existence.   MANY channels have quit while others have been "struck out" and their channels terminated.

Your generous donation of just ONE DOLLAR a month can reverse this and allow us to continue.  Not get rich,   just get by and pay the bills.    One dollar is approximately 3000 view's worth of lost ad-revenue.  It's a big deal!

A $1 donation is plenty of support in my humble opinion.  If we can get 5000 supporters out of almost 1 million subscribers,  we can rely less on the dwindling ad-rev.  and not have to worry about videos being unfairly demonetized.

Our goal is to continue creating YouTube videos- despite YouTube's desire to see us bleed-out and quit.   Your support of just one dollar a month will help us to continue to afford to create videos.   We have been running on a bare-bones budget for some time which leaves no money to buy new equipment,  travel to film exciting new things,   or pay the wonderful people who invest a LOT of time to help produce these videos.
