Milestone Goals
Minimum Financial Goal reached!
This pretty much covers the income lost while working on my degree! With this goal I can take time to focus on developing my project, such as writing content and drawing more concept art pieces. Depending on my educational workload, this may mean new content every week! More goals will be added overtime. . .
About
Yo, I am Theron (AKA: Taralen). I am a freelance artist and budding novelist who is trying to earn my B.A in Writing/Literature at UC San Diego. My interests are drawing, writing, reading, figure collecting and playing video games. I LOVE elves of different kinds, but I'm just a big fan of high fantasy stuff in general. ;)
My favorite authors are J.R.R Tolkien, Peter S beagle, Anne Rice, Gen Urobuchi, Kinoko Nasu and Poul William Anderson (just to name the ones from the top of my head ;) ).
My favorite video game series EVER is The Legend of Zelda. Undoubtedly my favorite game of all time is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and it is a HUGE influence on my work.
I also have a TON of favorite artists, but the ones who influence me the most are Ayami Kojima, Tetsuya Nomura, Ryusuke Mita and Satoshi Urushihara.

GREETINGS!
I am Theron (AKA: Taralen as I'm known as on DeviantArt), a freelance artist and budding novelist. Since 2008, I have been creating artwork and writing for my original illustrated novel project, Paean of the New Dawn. Unfortunately, due to constant schooling and work, I have found little time to actually sit down and get this project off the ground. To make matters worse, my education will become my full-time job and I will be without a stable income, forcing me to rely on commission work for money which means even LESS time for me to make this project happen.
By becoming my patron, you can help change that!
So why should you become a patron?
By becoming my patron you will support me in improving my skills as a writer AND an artist as well as push the progress of this project I am very passionate about. The less commission work I have to do means more time for me to develop this novel and the artwork associated with it!

What is my project about?
Paean of the New Dawn is planned to be an illustrated fantasy novel that'll be the first in a series of books I would like to write called The Legends of Spirala. It is the story of Letticus Sativa, a sheltered young Elf man (pictured above), who is abruptly pulled into helping the dragon-blooded princess Sariah and her rebellion militia restore the kingdom of Orion by freeing her father, the Dragon Emperor Nafarious, from his imprisonment. They must travel across the war-torn world of Spirala, losing and making allies along the way to help achieve their goal. In the process, Letticus ends up learning more about who and what he really is.
Why did I plan to make it an illustrated novel?
For a while I tangoed with the idea of making this story a graphic novel and have tried on several occasions to do so. However, I realized several years ago that I have strong passion for writing narrative that could not be conveyed through comic panels. As such, I plan for this to be a richly illustrated novel full of my own artwork so that it can be both a visual and literary experience!
While illustrated novels thrive in countries such as Japan, books like these are part of nearly a nonexistent niche market within the Western world of literature. I want this to be an illustrated novel series intended for an older (late teens - adult) audience. I also wish for this story to explore themes not commonly found (at least not outside erotica) in fantasy novels such as homosexual romance as a central and important part of the story.
