I love to write. But I’ve never had the chance to. I love to take photographs, but I’ve always compared myself to other photographers, and given up. I’ve always wanted to spin words, pictures and stories into art, and that is why I’m starting this page. I’ve never had the capacity nor space in my life due to the mountain of pressures that I’ve experienced, both real and perceived.

It’s a hard thing to admit that the way the world makes money, may not be my way. It’s hard because the boxes out there may not fit my triangular form of seeing and interpreting the world.

I recently lost my job as the founder and director of an innovate nonprofit that is seeking unique ways to solve the affordable housing crisis. Even when I started that, some of the experts in the housing field told me that it will be nearly impossible. But I pressed on.

Eventually, I couldn’t take the pressure. It was simply too much. But out of the ashes of losing my job, community and friends, a writer was born. I don’t think my writing is better than others, but it is mine. And it is beautiful.

If you support me through this incredible medium, you won’t get a product from me in return. You will get a postcard, a poem or maybe even a picture in the mail. It may not be a 2-3 day turnaround, but you will receive something unique from me.

The end…

I think we’ve lost the meaning of exchange due to rampant individualism, an obsession with personal security and exchanges that become about how much can I get out of you instead of how can we meet in the neediness of our humanity and build something beautiful together.

Money gets traded for goods and services (which is not a bad thing) but my hands were not meant to go over spreadsheets to get the best margins possible. I don’t care about margins. Instead, my hands were meant to create webs of connection from people, to stories, to poetry and art to remind us that exchange is not a bad thing, but can be reconciliatory.

Some of my favorites:
  • The color orange
  • Laughter, pranks and satire
  • Metaphors, similes and allegory
  • Birds, especially the mountain blue bird
  • Friends & Family
  • Rusted Root, Mumford, Ben Howard and Hillsong
  • Leonardo Da Vinci
  • Disney movies, especially Tarzan
  • Remember the Titans (all-time favorite)
  • Watching and playing golf, football, basketball, tennis, racquetball, baseball, ping pong, bocce ball and croquet
  • Cooking and playing with my food to make art
Sincerely,

Taylor
