About

Hey everyone, welcome to my Patreon! I am a London-based actor, writer and book blogger and have set up this account to help me through the financial turbulence of being mostly self-employed in such unstable industries.

I'm assuming most of you have come here from my book blogging on either Instagram or YouTube so HELLO and big love to you all! (I'm @TeaBooksAndTazmyn on both platforms.)

I'm a Chinese-English halfie and one of the main goals in everything I do (be it on YouTube or in my long-term creative projects) is to bridge the gap between the two cultures that I belong to. They are often pitted against each other and it is heartbreaking, so I am determined to use art to show people that we are not all that different.

To see what you would be investing in, below are some things about me that you may not necessarily know from just following my social media. I'm splitting them up into creative projects I am working on, which your kind donations would go towards becoming a reality, and general getting-to-know-me bits. I hope you like this little insight into some of my more projects. xxx

WRITING PROJECTS:

~ The main, long-term project of my dreams; my fantasy novel.
It's a character-driven novel that takes place in a fantasy world, following a group of people that meet at university and the lives they lead, both together and apart. It spans four decades as they go through love, death, identity crises, marriage, miscarriage, divorce, children, prison, assault, abuse, familial problems and everything that makes us human. (Even though they're not human... But for the a reader, it's about what makes US human.) There are orcs, elves, selkies and dragons, but it's about humanity and what makes us alive.

~ Poetry collections:
~ I have two different poetry collections that I'm working on. One is very much what it says on the tin; a collection of individual poems I've written over the days, months, in some cases even years.
~ The second one is very different in that it is a story told through poetry; it is inspired in style by the Greek epic poems, but is a timeless love story in which the only battles that are fought are the ones we fight each day. I want to write it to feel as epic as Homer's tales to reflect the love that the characters have for each other, like it could last centuries.

~ Semi-autobiographical play;
This is my most personal project which is possibly why it has been the hardest to write. In 2017, my brother (see about our relationship in the About Me section below) was murdered. This play is about that. It follows a family of four siblings, two boys, two girls, as one of them is killed and the rest of them are left behind to try and find a way to continue living. It's about grief and how it affects everyone differently and is about the dark, shameful sides of it too. I have never read/watched anything that deals with grief in the brutal, truthful way I have experienced it. It has always been romanticised. I want to shine a light on the way it actually affects people in the many forms I have seen it materialise in each member of my family. This play has light as well as dark and is fundamentally, as all of my work seems to be, about love.

ABOUT ME:

~ At the time of creating this account I am 22 years old and living in London with my two cats, Titus and Tucci (yes, named after Stanley).

~ I trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts on the Full-Time Foundation Acting Course, 2018-2019. I had a rough time while I was there mental health-wise but it was an eye-opening experience and has reinvigorated me with the passion to not only act, but also to create my own film and theatre as well.

~ I'm half Chinese (mum's side) and half English (dad's side) - the story of how they met is hella damn cute, but I'll save for another time

~ I am actually an only child but I call my three Chinese cousins my brothers and sister because, like in many Asian cultures, in Chinese we call each other "brother" or "sister" instead of by our names. Having been brought up bilingual (English and Mandarin) and by the fact that we are so incredibly close, they have never been anything other than my siblings.

~ I have, unfortunately, felt the divide between the two cultures that I am a part of since I was very young, having experienced racism first hand from a classmate when I was about six years old. This is also approximately the age I was when I fell in love with the world of film. Immediately, the power of art dawned on me and I became determined to use it to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western cultures.
