Human (Who Feeds Me)
per month

Of all the humans, you are one of the few acceptable ones. Here, have this trophy I caught as a token of my affection.

  • Digital thank you: Special thanks from your favorite writer cat!
New Toy
per month
For me??? You shouldn't have! Now excuse me, I have to go rip this to shreds before the day is over. A cat's work is never done...

  • Digital thank you
  • High quality artwork scans: These will be uploaded as they're completed. You'll get a chance to see artwork before it goes up for sale on Redbubble, and occasionally we'll share WIP pictures and give you a chance for input.
  • Daily poems: A new poem every single day! Some will end up published in later months, but others will be purely exclusive to Patrons.
Fresh Scratching Post- Er, Sofa
per month
Ah, there's nothing quite like the feeling of freshly sharpened blades of death... Surely there's nothing else this would be used for.

  • Digital thank you
  • High quality artwork scans
  • Daily poems
  • Sneak peeks: Get a chance to see whole chapters, scenes, short stories, and poems before we release a new book!
  • Rough drafts: A chance to see into some of the process. We'll be posting some of our stories in their rawest form, giving you a chance to weigh in, and see some of the process involved in being a writer
  • Flash fiction: We don't normally publish our flash fiction, so these will usually end up exclusive to Patrons - a chance to read some stories you would never see otherwise!
  • Short stories: We enjoy writing short stories, but it can take a while to collect enough of a similar theme to combine into one collection. This gives you a chance to read them long before they would get published!

Hey there! If you’re here, it means you’re a fan or have at least interacted with my work in some way already. That in itself is a huge thing, so deeply, thank you. It’s an honor to have you here in the first place.

Normally, I go around on anything Jamie Winters related talking about how he’s a cat who happens to write books, but we’re going to get a bit more real here on the Patreon. That’s what you came here for, anyway, an actual, honest connection with a creator you already enjoy. So.

Jamie Winters is not actually a cat. (Shocking, I know.) Jamie Winters is a co-writing team of two married people.

We were originally both trying to start our own writing careers, but a few books in, it became painfully obvious just how often we dabbled, helped write, edit, and brainstorm the other’s work. It started getting to be tricky to decide when we would put two names on a book cover instead of one, so we decided we would just come up with one pen name and share our career. After going over a few different pen names, we settled on Jamie Winters. I asked my spouse something about which gender Jamie Winters should go by (we chose a gender-neutral name on purpose), and we got stumped. “Jamie Winters is a cat,” I eventually declared with a laugh. “Just a cat.” I meant it as a joke, but it ended up sticking. And so ThatCatAuthor was born.

In May of 2018, we released the first Jamie Winters book: i’m fine., a collection of haiku focusing on what it’s like to live with mental illness. And we kept releasing books until we had managed to release six other books in addition to i’m fine., which is where we find ourselves today.

But now, we’re finding ourselves at a bit of a crossroads. The thing is, to make decent money as a writer, there are certain rules that help a writer achieve success. For example, writing in certain popular genres and sticking to that genre, releasing somewhere between once every month to once every three months, and also creating series to help funnel readers from one book to another. This ends up leading to a very particular type of book and reading experience, one which we certainly enjoy from time to time, but find stifling when considering it might be the only type of writing we do.

Basically, the type of writing that sells isn't the type of writing we do. So far, we've released 5 poetry books, all of which we're very proud of... But poetry doesn't bring in much money. We'd love to create an interconnected world of superheroes through comic books... But comic books take forever to create. We'd love to experiment with ways to combine our music, writing, and visual art into one story... But experimenting doesn't guarantee the bills will be paid. Are you sensing a pattern?

We didn’t become artists because we wanted to make money. We became artists because we have deep, powerful inner messages that are begging to be shared. We became artists because we can see a brighter, more hopeful world, and we want to work towards sharing that vision to help create it. We would still like to devote most of our time to these stories and messages, whether that’s through writing, music, panting, or what-have-you. Even if it's not the writing that gets devoured ravenously enough to bring in the dough.

We hope that our art will slowly gain a following as more and more people start hearing our messages, but "someday" doesn't give us the space and safety to create these important messages now, when the world needs them.

Enter Patreon.

Patreon is a platform that allows you to support creators you love so they can continue making the art you love. This way, we can dedicate more time to the things you enjoy, you get to see more books, music, and paintings, and we can have a direct relationship where you can tell us what you’d like to see more of. Everybody wins!

My spouse and I both live with disabilities, which has made it hard for us to work more “traditional” jobs. The times we have tried keeping an average job have ended in us getting sick and slowly losing the ability to keep the job. But despite all that, we don’t want to just be a charity case. We can work. We’d like to work. It just has to be work where we can have enough control to have low energy days and a flexible schedule. Where other artists may say that it would be nice to one day make their art into a living, we feel a pressing urge to find any way possible to make it work. Which is why we feel Patreon could end up being the answer.

We’re not just saying this to guilt trip more people into donations. Become a patron because you see the value of the art we create and the stories we have to share. Donate because you want to be a part of this wonderful journey. But know that every single patron means so much to us because every single one of you is helping us in a huge way towards our goal.

All of our books, music, and paintings will still be accessible, of course. We believe in regularly making sure people have free access to our work because we know the importance of art in even the poorest lives. But if you do choose to become a patron, you’ll also have access to exclusive content, chat sessions, free books, merchandise, MP3s, and more! We want to deeply thank every single one of you who sends us support, no matter how much or how little that may be. You can set your pledge to as little as $1 a month, and you can cancel or change your pledge at any time.

Again, thank you so much for reading and being here in the first place. Just being here already shows a connection, and we’re so grateful for all the support that has been shown to us since we started publishing. Thank you for all the encouragement, reviews, purchases, recommendations, and helping hands during our darkest hours. It all means so, so much to us and keeps us going. I don’t know where we’d be without the love that has been shown to us, and am truly, deeply grateful for that.

  • Patreon charges you on the first of the month.
  • Many of the rewards depend on the entire month's content (what books were published that month, a chapbook made of that month's poems, etc), which means packages will not ship until the end of the month. This is to make sure that all the content for the month can get captured in one package, rather than a constant stream of packages (and postal charges) as content is created.
$332.38 of $2,500 per month
We are SAFE on a regular monthly basis! We currently have to scramble every week to ensure we don't end up homeless, and this would be enough to cover housing costs plus the cost of running the Patreon rewards. This means so much more time actually dedicated to making ALL THE THINGS rather than being stuck in a perpetual anxiety loop.
