About Natalie Weiner

The 1959 Project is a yearlong endeavor to chronicle an event in jazz history that happened every single day of that seminal year — so, exactly 60 years ago, every day. The year is notable for its releases — Kind of Blue, Mingus Ah Um, Time Out, The Shape of Jazz to Come — as well as just the sheer abundance of musicians who are now vital to jazz's canon who were active.

It's all happening on Tumblr (the1959project.com), and is free for anyone to read — there's more information there on the impetus behind the project. To expand the scope, though, I'm making playlists of music that was recorded, released, or just popular during each month of the year for Patreon subscribers; if enough people are interested in that, I'll use the proceeds to buy a couple microphones and do a mini-podcast of interviews with people who were on the scene in 1959 to hear what it was like in their own words.

Your readership and interest is greatly appreciated — let's see how far we can take this!
