About The Brothers Gillespie

Dear friends, We are launching this online community in a leap of faith that it will not only be possible for us to carry on creating and singing during these crazy times but that our practice of making music and listening for the call might even thrive in these conditions. We are approaching this in the spirit of showing up for our lives, and bringing ourselves to the coalface of where our hearts and hands meet the challenges of the days as much as we can.
Without a community an artist cannot survive, to all those who have supported us in stepping out further into our creativity these last few years in many myriad ways by coming to our concerts, by words of encouragement, buying our albums, supporting our crowdfunders, booking us for concerts, or listening to our music we thank you and are deeply grateful.
We see that to carry on walking this path into a tomorrow that beckons to us, with a mirage of shifting paths, disappearing certainties and many unknowns we will need to adapt how we do things and we will need to build a supportive community.
Having just lost all of our concerts for the forseeable future and most of our income for the next year we see that live music is not as future proofed as we had always imagined it to be. We come to the fire where our people are gathered with a renewed commitment to our work, there is so much to explore in this wonderful unfolding gift of music, in the voices of the land, in building resilient communities. We open our mouths to sing and with full hearts ask the world for help. Support from the folk around the campfire, whether small or large allows us to go further out into the night, its the invisible hands that come to lift us up when all seems lost, its the space around the steam from a cup of tea that turns into a dragon and curls into a song, its some kind of healing honey that lets us sing, and very practically keeps the Man off our scent long enough for us to get things down on paper in time and change our address before the sheriff's men roll into town.
So we are proposing to get creative in new ways, to record more prolifically, stuff that is experimental, new, old, weird, writing, videos, photographs, poems and to share it with our community of supporters on here. We'll aim to post something at least twice a month. In the spirit of ringing the bells that still can ring, forgetting our perfect offering, we are aspiring to show up and to create and relate honestly to the inspiration that flows or to its absence.
We also imagine this could be a space in which we as community musicians would welcome feedback, suggestions for songs and madcap ideas.
Wishing you all well.
Thank you all so much.
James and Sam
