Hi! I'm Dan Wells, a New York Times bestselling author best known for the science fiction series PARTIALS and ZERO G, and the horror series I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER. I've written for movies, TV, stage, and games, and I cohost the Hugo-winning podcast Writing Excuses. I live in northern Utah with my wife, six children, a dog, a cat, and a rabbit.

We've been hit with some rough medical expenses, and this Patreon is a way for me to give you something awesome in return for a little money to help cover those expenses. I've changed a lot of the rewards, and I think you'll really love them.

September 2019 SCHEDULE
Online Writing Group: Wednesday, September 25, 7:00 pm Mountain Time
Tiers
Archive Access Pass!
$3 or more per month

Everyone will get access to my entire Patreon archive, regardless of the tier required at the time of posting.

My Patreon archive includes:

  • Annotated published chapters
  • Annotated unpublished chapters
  • Sneak peeks
  • Bonus fiction
  • Serialized chapters of my entire novel THE SWARM

You will also be the first to hear any announcements or see any new cover art.

Online Writing Group!
$20 or more per month

  • Each month I'll choose a chapter from my own work, and a chapter that someone has submitted to me for critique. I'll get that person's permission, and then email everyone at this tier a copy of both chapters.
  • I'll set a time and date, which will almost always be in the evening of the fourth Thursday of the month. This date will be posted here on Patreon.
  • We all read the chapters, then get together in a Google Hangout and talk about them. If the size of the group proves unwieldy, we'll do something else, but I think we'll be okay for now.
  • Everyone at the $50 tier is automatically enrolled in this tier as well, though it is optional to participate; they will of course still get a personal critique as described in that tier.

Every member of the writing group will also have full access to my Patreon archive of annotated chapters, sneak peeks, THE SWARM, and special announcements.

Chapter Critique!
$50 or more per month

Every month that you support me at this tier, you can send me a chapter of a book you're writing and I'll mark it up and send it back.

(I say "chapter," but really it's "5000 words of a story," which could be multiple chapters or a section of a short or whatever you want. I prefer first chapters, but can read later chapters if you provide enough info to fill any holes I get from stepping into the story late.)

Everyone at this tier is also automatically enrolled in the Online Writing Group, though participating in that group is 100% optional. I may ask you if we can use your chapter in the Writing Group, but you are always free to say no, and you'll get a personal critique either way.

Everyone at this tier will also get full access to all previous rewards, including my Patreon archive of THE SWARM, the annotated chapters, and special announcements.

Goals

When I reach 75 patrons, I'll add a NEW short story to my Patreon archive.
