About

When I started The Developer just over a year ago with my co-founder James Macleod, we always dreamed of owning it outright.

But we were grateful to Ocean Media Group, a publishing house that incubated our launch, giving us the backing, support and bandwidth to launch our magazine, website, podcast and the Festival of Place, all within 8 months.

But when a change of leadership and direction at Ocean gave us the opportunity to buy the magazine, podcast and event, we jumped at the chance.

Still, the ink wasn't even dry on the contract when Coronavirus hit. It was always our plan to launch on Patreon, but these challenging times have made your support all the more critical.

Our content has always been free to air because we want to make it accessible to all. We also donate a large proportion of our conference and Festival of Place tickets and The Pineapples awards entries free of charge to ensure that community groups, charities, students and small businesses can benefit from their insight and networking opportunities.

We're committed to cutting through the placewash to unpick what makes places where people thrive; healthy cities where people want to live, work, play and learn.

The clarity, frankness, insight and honesty of our podcast, beautiful magazine and online articles rely on the excellent paid work of our professional writers, photographers, filmmakers, producers and graphic designers.

We're determined to keep The Developer going, and growing – serving our community of placemakers and shapers with amazing stories and fresh thinking on urban development.

If you like what we do and would be our Patron, I'd be so grateful.

Very best,
Christine Murray
