The Discarded Image is creating Video Essays and Original Content

The Discarded Image started on Vimeo, when I turned an old blog I had written about the famous beach scene from Jaws into a video essay. It was well received (Slate, IndieWire, BBC, BFI, etc), so naturally there was a thirst to put out more, and I completed the 5-part video series on the New Hollywood “Movie Brats”. More recently, TDI was launched on YouTube, where I continued looking at the filmmaking craft I've studied all my life.

I aim to put out a video once a month. I'd like to push to twice a month eventually, but that will only be feasible with more support. You have the option to set a monthly limit on your contributions, in the event that happens.

While The Discarded Image is proud to have partnered up with MUBI, it still needs your help. The channel is still in its early growth, attracts limited views, and needs as much support as it can get to keep the videos coming out at a consistent rate. Plus I would like to focus on the subjects I'm passionate about discussing, as opposed to being concerned about what will generate big views on YouTube. With Patreon, you give me the opportunity to do just that. So I would appreciate any support, no matter how small.

Tiers
Support TDI
$1 or more per creation
Thanks! I appreciate the support. No donation is too small. It all adds up.

Plus you get access to my private Patreon feed, where you can get a link to what subject is coming up next, to help prepare for the video.
Video Commentary
$2 or more per creation
There's a lot of time and research that goes into every video, which is gradually chipped away at. So with the release of each one I do a supplementary video, where I pop on camera, and go into more detail on the video essay I've recently made.

Sometimes I will do this via a livestream, which will only be kept online for a short amount of time, but you can still get access to the video.

VIP MUBI pass (Limited Amount)
$2.50 or more per creation
I have a limited amount of 90 day VIP MUBI passes for the first people that sign up to this.

Plus you get the other perks.
Goals
2% complete
I could take on less business, allowing me to be more frequent with videos.
