About The Dress Detective Podcast

The Dress Detective is a podcast about fashion history. In each episode, we’ll explore an intriguing story related to fashion history, and along the way we discover true crimes, mysteries, and even the paranormal. We delve into stories such as how a Victorian murder mystery was solved with a hat, and what color drove pirates to attack Spanish galleons. From burial shrouds to widows’ weeds, we unearth the meaning of certain clothing while we reconstruct the fashion culture of eras past.

I love creating this podcast and sharing my knowledge and passion with my listeners! However, the podcast requires extensive research and resources, including the purchase and reading of books and journals and subscription access to newspapers and historical archives, not to mention my personal investment of time, equipment and skills. To provide my listeners with the best audio experience, each episode is also professionally produced and edited, requiring a further financial investment.

To help the podcast continue on this fascinating journey, you can show your support through Patreon. Please consider becoming a supporter. There are several tiers available. Every little bit helps and is immensely appreciated! Thank you!
Goals
0 of 250 patrons
Since the study of fashion history involves visual media, I would like to supplement the podcast with videos. When I reach 250 patrons I will create exclusive videos which will pair with specific episodes. This video content may include viewing museum collections, examining historical garments and even tutorials on historical costuming.
