Abridged Scripts for Movies

Consistent schedule
$400 per month
Some months we post 4 scripts, some months we post 8.  It really depends on author free time and availability.  If we get $400/month, it will work out to be about $40/script after Patreon fees, which is enough to motivate way more script output, and we'll have a consistent schedule of two scripts every week.
Movie commentary tracks
$1,000 per month
We've often thought about recording feature-length commentaries with multiple authors for various movies, and at $1,000/mo we'll give it a shot.  We'll probably charge a small amount for the track, but Patrons can have it for free.
Podcast!
$2,000 per month
We've been kicking around the idea of a monthly podcast about movies for a while, but it would require a lot of time and some equipment.  $2,000/mo is obviously a huge stretch goal, but if we get there we'll be able to try out a first episode of a podcast, listen to it after it's up, and then ask nervously if we "really sound like that."

About

The Editing Room is one of the oldest sites on the internet. How old? People used to search for it using Altavista, that's how old.  The site has been featuring shortened, sarcastic screenplays of movies since Godzilla (Bueller, not Heisenberg), and today it features more than 10 authors updating the site every week.

The Editing Room has been around since 1998 and features over 700 Abridged Scripts for movies.  The site has been featured on Cracked.com and even has its own Urban Dictionary entry and TV Tropes page.

Your monthly pledge helps The Editing Room stay updated with fresh scripts of the newest Hollywood bowel movements.  All the latest sequels, prequels, sidequels, reboots, remakes, adaptations, and even the occasional original thought (just kidding) are targets for our dedicated team of authors.

Every author at The Editing Room writes scripts on the side, as the site doesn't pay diddly shit.  Even the obnoxious ads don't even cover hosting fees, and you've been using AdBlock to hide them anyway. Did you even know there was a banner ad?  Well, there is, and it wants you to know that sexy singles are in your area.

How Pledging Works:

You pick an amount you're comfortable pledging per month.  Let's say, for the sake of argument, $75,000.  You and the site's other patrons all get billed by Patreon every month, and the total amount gets split between the authors who published scripts the previous month.

What You Get:

The site strives to have at least one script posted every single week, though typically we've averaged 7 per month.  Scripts obviously favor newer releases, but we also occasionally take a look at older movies that you remember fondly so we can ruin them for you.

As a patron, you can gain access to all of these scripts, as well as some patron-only benefits:

  • No ads anywhere on the site, except to the extent that basically all of the scripts are ads for movies
  • Private forum where you can make suggestions as well as verbally abuse authors
  • Exclusive scripts only visible to patrons, until some jerkhole copies and pastes them in public
  • Early access to scripts before they're published on the site, probably full of splleling errors
  • Good feelings about yourself for supporting us, unlike those other dirty freeloading scumbags

The Editing Room gets about 50,000 visitors per month, which means if only 1% of you pledge a dollar... holy shit.  $500 per month?  That's crazy! The stupid ads only pull in $20/month! Why did I wait until now to set this up?
