Why tell this story?
I went to a party in 2011 and overheard a girl refer to herself as a “brand." She saw herself as a product of her own corporation. It struck me because one year prior there was a case brought to the supreme court arguing that corporations were people. If Corporations were people, the government could not impede them from spending as much money as they wanted on candidates because of their freedom of speech. But if corporations were people, people could be corporations; I wanted to explore a world where everyone was a corporation. What would that look like and how would we get there?

I've always loved fictional dystopian stories in which the corporation has won and reigned supreme. But I was still more interested in how that world came to be. What missteps did we make as a country to reach that place? The Hand Unseen is that story, a bridge between our real world and that inevitable fictional Corporatocracy.

Why tell this story, this way?
I wanted to create a structure akin to the way I've been reading stories for the last couple years. I see a headline on my news app; I find an article from a news source I rely on; I read an opposing viewpoint from a source I don't agree with. Maybe I check out an infographic, then go on social media to see the popular opinion. People will tell you they don't read anymore, but they do. They read texts, emails, and facebook, all day long. This is the new unconscious narrative of the world weaving our subjective reality.

2017 was either the greatest financially successful year or the worst political disaster in American history. Two people living in the same household could see the world in completely different ways, each believing their reality is the objective truth. The only difference is the lens in which they view the world. The lens of The Hand Unseen is a mysterious curator 100 years from now cobbling together a secret narrative for unknown purposes. I want to confront people with this alternative perspective, one that sits outside of partisanship and asks them to follow a timeline into a future that everyone should find a little uncomfortable.

Why ask for support?
- Just on my part, I do all the research, write the stories, create the design and layout, and do the web design for the project. I spend, conservatively, 50-60 hours on this each week.
-I have an invaluable editor who I pay to fix my innumerable grammatical errors (and to put in words like “innumerable”) but also to help create a more authentic journalistic style.
-I hire incredible illustrators to contribute to the project and flesh out the world when my words can't do it justice.

What can I do with funding?
-Hire other journalists to give more insight into the world with fresh, diverse perspectives.
-Hire more illustrators, and pay them what they deserve.
-Devote more time and funding to potential merchandise
-Work on the project full time and develop a schedule to release more regular content on a regular basis.
-More of everything!

CHAPTER 3
This should cover the artist commissions and editor I have planned for this chapter.
