About

Hello you wonderful creature! Welcome to The Joyful Ecologist page!

I am a PhD researcher currently based in Dublin, Ireland, studying insect pollinators such as bumblebees, solitary bees, and flies. As an ecologist and conservationist, I am incredibly passionate about science communication and public outreach. Research does nothing for the greater community, both human and otherwise, if it is not implemented in the real world!

In an effort to share information about my research with the public, I have participated in several science communication events such as Soapbox Science (http://soapboxscience.org), Bright Club (http://brightclub.ie), and FameLab (https://www.britishcouncil.ie/famelab), as well as giving short talks at local open mics. I have also worked as a community outreach facilitator on two research projects in the United States.

Unfortunately, scientists don't often get paid for their public engagement work and my efforts to communicate science in an interesting, engaging way are almost always conducted out-of-hours and without compensation. Hence, the Patreon!

Your contributions will allow me to pursue more public outreach opportunities and communicate science to a wider audience. Your support will also allow me to fund my own science communication events! And don't worry, you're all invited!

Thank you so much for your support! The bees and I thank you kindly.

Joyfully yours,

The Joyful Ecologist
