About The Luna Moth

Hey prospective patrons, a quick announcement before I introduce myself. I am currently running a fundraiser for Black Lives Matter DC. There has been a lot of white supremacist nonsense being spewed in response to Disney's announcement that a black woman, Halle Bailey, will be playing Ariel in the upcoming reboot of The Little Mermaid

Black women have been responding to these critiques, but when white intersectional feminist allies step up and work to shut these racist jerks down, educate them, or otherwise engage in the dialogue that is exploding around this topic, we use our white privilege for good. We can (help... at least partially) spare black women the exhausting task of explaining to the white supremacist internet subculture why fish ladies are not inherently white because... they're imaginary fish ladies rooted in an indistinct culture and geographic location, and that complaints about a black Ariel are REALLY not so much about losing one's childhood as they are about losing one's white privilege.

Having said all that, let's talk details about the fundraiser. I yell on the internet a lot, but the worse America spirals into fascism, the more I feel compelled to do. I am not a fighter, but I'm here for the fight. So I drew Halle Bailey as Ariel, because The Little Mermaid was my most formative Disney experience, Halle Bailey is a gosh darn treasure, and I stand with black women.

What does that mean?

I have listed my print, "Halle Bailey is my Ariel," in my Society 6 store. 100% of the net profits for every Ariel print/product I sell, will be donated to Black Lives Matter DC, to help fund their critical efforts in "dismantling White Supremacy, Patriarchy, Capitalism, Imperialism and the role the state plays in supporting them."

Prints, totes, mugs, and more are available on The Luna Moth Society 6 store.

Thank you for bearing with me on that wild rant. Back to your normal programming.

Welcome to The Luna Moth.

I am an independent historian, graphic designer, fan artist, and intersectional feminist on a mission to create fan art that celebrates feminist ideals. I have a MA in public history, I have worked with Amnesty International to address violence against women in digital spaces, and I've been producing digital art for almost 20 years. The brightly colored and socially thoughtful art we build together will honor and critique pop culture.

When you become a patron of The Luna Moth, you help bring thoughtful fan art celebrations of women and women-helmed books, music, television programs, movies, and video games into the digital space. Plus, when you become a patron, you help me provide special, Patreon exclusive rewards to feminists like you, who actively make my art possible.

It's not easy to find the time to create feminist fan art; as a freelance historian and graphic designer, most of my free time is dedicated to keeping my lights on and my Adobe subscription up to date. But when you maintain access to The Luna Moth's Patreon-exclusive content, I can spend more time on revering the badass ladies of popular culture and history. And I can spend more time sharing that art with you!

Your pledge today will allow me to continue creating art that lifts women up, celebrates diversity, examines problematic faves, and promotes inclusion. Plus, by being a patron, you'll get access to hella cool rewards, like sneak previews of art in progress, digital wallpapers, access to Patreon only art, an invite to The Luna Moth's Discord community, and more!

If you enjoy feminist fan art, would like to see more of it in the world, and would like to get access to a bunch of 'sclusies, please join me now by clicking that pretty, access granting "Become A Patron" button.

You love pop culture and feminism. I love pop culture and feminism. Let's geek out together.
