Why become a Reach patron?
Reach is a counselling and psychotherapy network, specializing in personal development. Although we are based in the UK, we have formed numerous international collaborations which has led to a substantial overseas following. Our philosophy and approach has come to be described as The Reach Approach.
Our sole purpose is to make a positive contribution to the world and we believe the best way to do that is to empower people through practical support and appropriate resources. To this end, over nearly 30 years, we have built a library of resources, rich in diversity and original content and are now at a point where in order to meet the growing demand for our work we need your help.
We’re asking for a small contribution ($5 per month) to help us keep doing what we do best, which is offer empowerment through education and support.
We believe that a small number of committed individuals can make a powerful impact and we hope you'll join us.
Currently we have a comprehensive on-line presence and we also offer a wide range of personal support through one-to-one counselling, workshops, group work, training and supervision of professionals and we want to add to the portfolio of help that we offer.
Since 1990 we have benefited literally hundreds of thousands of individuals via our 4 websites, our YouTube channel, iTunes, Facebook, Twitter, The Reach Loyalty Club, Happy Hints and our app of the same name. As a result our work has now reached over 190 different countries.
Here’s a summary of what we offer online and wish to expand:
* Hundreds of free, original handouts, worksheets, articles and research literature.
* Over 75 innovative guided meditations and original instrumentals are available in the iTunes store and over 150 in our gift shop.
* Our YouTube channel makes a selection of our work available in French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Czech, Urdu, Dutch and English... and other language options are in the pipe-line.
* Our unique, award-winning app, Happy Hints, offers the user daily, positive, uplifting messages and a wide variety of other self-help resources – to date this has sold in more than 35 countries.
* Our websites are packed with informative articles, ‘person specific’ guidance and a plethora of educational resources on all things to do with mental, physical and spiritual well-being.
* The Reach Loyalty Club has added to our longstanding tradition of offering ‘empowerment through education' - providing newsletters to its members on a wide variety of topics relating to the human condition.
* We’ve produced a unique trilogy of books, exploring the complexity of the human story and offering solutions for our modern ailments - and we're keen to add to this collection. These are available on Kindle as well as in hard copy.
* Where we do charge for resources such as our app, calendar, MP3s, CDs etc. the costs are always modest.
When we began, we never anticipated the rate or the scale of Reach’s growth. Although we have done very well to create systems that can service the needs of so many, the current rate of expansion is stretching our finite resources, hence a different strategy is required so we can continue to meet the increasing demands for what we offer.

As you can see from our Goals, we’ve presented three primary targets and at each level we will deliver a number of creative options that will enable those seeking help to find a better set of solutions to facilitate their own healing/personal growth.
Our promise to you is simple... we have always produced high quality, well-researched written and audio-visual materials, covering a wide range of familiar topics relating to the human condition.
We’ve also specialized in unveiling and explaining the unfamiliar and more obscure areas relating to personal growth and your support will help us to continue, not simply doing this but developing these activities further - as illustrated in the three primary Goals.
The vast majority of our resources have always been freely available, and that will continue to be the case.
We are an organization built on integrity and conscience and we will never waver in our commitment to helping individuals find ways of recovering from their dilemmas and issues.

As you can see from the Rewards section, Reach patrons will have exclusive access to our large MP3 collection, which means that they can freely download any of our work from our gift shop to their hearts’ content. The current collection stands at over 150 recordings, which is growing all the time.
We have been producing our very popular audio-visual resources for approaching 30 years and they have travelled the world... so patrons will have access to this library of meditations and instrumentals – past and present. This collection is already substantial and with your pledges we will be able to be more prolific, creating more 'sustainable solutions' for those in need.
In addition, all Reach patrons (for the lifetime of their patronage) will receive our beautiful iconic calendars, with their wonderful images and profound insights – a genuine treat for the mind and the heart.
A model built on listening...
Reach was conceived out of several research projects, which began in 1979 and involved client audits, interviews and surveys, looking at individuals’ experience of community based support.
This was not one piece of research carried out in a single institutional setting; in fact, it was replicated in numerous organizations over an eleven-year period. This allowed the results to be contrasted and compared within different environments and over time. We've come to see that the results are not unique to the UK and are relevant across the world, which is why our work/model has had such extensive appeal.
The primary premise of all the research was to establish what happens both in the short and longer term to individuals who received therapeutic support to address their emotional and psychological issues. The results were very illuminating.
What the research uncovered was that in all cases, regardless of the organization’s focus and specialism, and the culture, gender and race of those who participated, at least 75% of the service users, clients and patients found that the initial help they received was not sufficient to sustain their recovery.
What the clients reported was that somewhere between 3 and 12 months after the therapeutic intervention/community based support they found themselves in need of further assistance. In some instances this involved going back to the same organization often with the same problems but in the vast majority of cases, clients opted to access alternative services due to their embarrassment or sense of failure.
We have come to describe this pattern as the ‘revolving door of therapy' because what became clear was that clients were only getting enough to help them deal with their presenting symptoms whilst the underlying causes continued to wreak havoc in some other way in their lives. This is why they found themselves going round the same loop, trying to find a way to break out of that cycle. It was clear something else was needed.
In 1990 Easton Hamilton founded Reach as a direct response to this ‘revolving door’ problem. Having worked in numerous social-care organizations, specializing in mental health and having been instrumental in the aforementioned research, he learned that a new approach was needed and wanted to establish an organization that looked at the ‘whole person’ rather than focusing only on an individual's symptoms - and so Reach was born.
Little did he know then that Reach would become not only a national psychotherapy and personal development practice, specializing in a mind-body approach to health but that its influence in the following 3 decades would extend across the world. See what our clients say about us.
