About

Welcome to our Patreon Page!

We are all about improvisation in classical music. Lots of composers from
the past were awe-inspiring improvisers, like Sweelinck, Bach, Beethoven
and Liszt.

There are videos, posts and inspiring ideas for all levels ofimprovisers. Through topics from the entire range of Classical
Music, we want to start your creative engines running, so you can find whichimprovisatory styles really get you going. This is not a course, but a
continuous exploration of many facets of classical improvisation. We want
to bring together people interested in classical music improvisation
through educational videos, videos illuminating our learning process and a
platform for sharing your own ideas and contributions.

We (Robert and James) met each other at the conservatory in The Hague, The Netherlands and have been improvising classical music in concerts for more than a decade.
We improvised for the former Queen of the Netherlands, in Concertgebouw Amsterdam, in the cinematic movie "Michiel de Ruyter" and teach improvisation at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague in The Netherlands.
Although we hail from "Early Music" we see classical music improvisation as a huge field of inspiration: a 15th-century passion, a 16th-century celebration of the Song of Songs with ornamented motets, a visit with improvisations and stories to a 17th-century English pub, an exploration of the act of invention with improvisations around Bach's inventions, a "Bach cantata", Beethoven's variation style, "Elgarishness" on a golf-cart, Ravel's and Chopin's Boleros mashed up with our own fantasy in a bar and improvisation inspired by Fado and other contemporary styles.
We can't wait to share music history's treasures from all these centuries and how they inspire us to improvise with YOU.

“What this group does is completely unique. No one else in “Classical music” dares to undertake the feat of improvising whole concerts as a group! If you like the spirit of jazz, Indian ragas, Arabic taqsim, or if you are simply a fan of wonderfully played Baroque music, they are for you.”
– Kati Debretzeni [Concert master English Baroque Soloists under Sir John Elliot Gardiner]
