is creating a better Internet experience for businesses and consumers.

My vision is to develop a fair and locally focused internet marketplace where businesses will get a true "fair go" online.  Consumers will be able to easily find, follow and support their favourite local businesses free from paid advertising and manipulated search results.

THE GOALS:
No more pay to win, no more hidden secret keyword algorithms, no more link popularity contests, no more "seo", just a really easy to use online business network where everyone can connect and prosper based on their merits and not the size of their bank account.

I am aiming to develop the best online business and community supported network, where members choose to support each other, and money does not give one business an advantage over another in relation to being found online.

I am developing a commercial consumer experience tailored to exactly what the end user wants - not just what they are "given".  Choice, discovery, peace of mind and the freedom to truely explore are key components of this experience.

As a consumer, you will have more control than ever before of how you choose to find, interact and stay connected to businesses online.

Currently, when using the big "search" and "social media" sites, your actual set of "choices" are being heavily limited and filtered.  Once in, you become part of highly controlled user "funnels", where those that have the most money are given preference, or are favoured by their already existing online dominance.

It's a bit more complicated than that of course, but the bottom line is, when you are looking for businesses and products online, most of the time you are shown filtered and monitarily modified results, all while being made to feel like you are in control.

! Those of you utilising other networks, good onya! We hope you can identify with our goals, join us and support us if you are able. !

THE CURRENT STATUS QUO WILL NOT CHANGE WITHOUT AN ALTERNATIVE:
All of the commercial unfairness, difficulties and blinder driven user experience problems could easily be fixed, but nothing will ever be done to change the status quo.  All the current Billion Dollar Profits by the major players rely on things staying exactly the same.

This is hurting our local economies.  Small businesses are shutting down faster than they are being started.  The corporations are fast becomming the only players in many marketplaces.  This actually seems to me the ultimate goal of "pay to win" economics fostered by the current state of the Internet.

This is because all those corporate "search" and "online advertising" profits come from your local business economies, putting un-necessary pressure on local and small businesses to pay for "seo" and "pay per click" advertising just to be seen online.

It doesn't have to be this way!

I'm not trying to fix the whole Internet here, or de-commercialise the whole web.  I am aiming only to build a co-operative business and community driven network that provides a level economic playing field for all members.  TSN will deliver a better, more complete user experience to consumers when looking for business and products online.

The current corporate controlled online business economy places a totally un-necessary burdon on small businesses. This hurts local economies and costs jobs. Businesses having to pay hundreds and even thousands of dollars on a monthly basis to be found online by consumers is not how Internet should be. I belive in things being "as free as the can be" online - meaning that everyone who is offering products and services online should be found online by their target market regardless of their business size or bank account..

I have been working on solutions to online socio-economic problems since 1998, and while the Internet has changed dramatically in terms of economic equality,  my ideas and solutions have been changing to keep up with the latest tech and trends.

My vision of a level online playing field for businesses and consumers will only become a reality with both business and community support.

So - here I am on Patreaon!  I've thought about this for a long time, and am now actively looking for business and community support for my vision and to further develop The Streets Network in version 3.0.

By supporting me on this Patreaon you will get inside access to the 3.0 development version alpha and be able to give direct feedback and discuss ideas and options.  The more support we receive the faster version 3.0 will roll out and start making a difference!

CHANGE IS POSSIBLE:
These sort of "big, altruistic and disruptive" changes can never be accomplished by funding from dividend seeking investors or a profiteering based business model.  It must begin with a grass roots movement of people and businesses who understand the problem - telling others -and getting together to support a solution.

With support form business owners and everyday people who see the problem, we can develop The Streets Network into something big enough to be a real alternative,  freeing businesses and consumers from the 'pay to win' corporate controlled and 'filtered' web experience.

My goal is to simply build the best co-op platform possible that gives everyone an easy and complete path to find, connect and keep in touch with their favourite business products and services.

I want people to be able to discover the huge range of small business products and services that you won't find "using search" or "browsing social media".

THE CURRENT NETWORK:
The current network is Australia only and in 2.0 beta.  This version was a quick 2 month project, experimenting with integrating business and social media and to test some other ideas.  It is functional, but lacks consumer driven customisations and a whole range of bother user and business features that I have planned.

E.g. special offer feeds, better mobile integrations, customised homepage options, better user and business page management and much more!

The ideas I have yet to impliment will offer real change in the way business search and the consumer driven Internet can work.   Yes, a big statement, but I believe I've got the goods - at least in theory at the moment.

I will be laying it all out in my Patreon feeds as these ideas are developed, tested and refined.

TSN 3.0 has its initial stages very much planned out and ready for development. It will be a ground up fresh build on a proper custom platform that allows for scaling and more streamlined code.

The current 2.0 release will be updated here and there, though the focus of this Patreon is to support a complete rebuild with a lot of planned changes and features in the works. Version 3.0 beta is going to release as a global system, albeit only in English at first.

OUR HISTORY:
Version 1.0 of TSN was built in 1999 to take on Yellow Pages Online and was  a 2 person team. While only a simple static directory based system, back in the day TSN had over 200,000 users / month in 73 major cities in the US and Australia - and drove the online success of many of it's members.

TSN 1.0 did very well in Perth, Western Australia until the global search engines, having sorted 'global search', started focusing focusing on taking over the local internet. Eventualls they removed competing local directories from their search 'rankings' for a 'better user experience'.

These global searchenging now control more than 40% of all Internet to Consumer information flow.  Meaning they alone choose who and what will 'most likely' be seen by you 'the consumer'.

This is fine for searching for information such as 'grandma's pecan pie recipes' - but when it comes to "business search", the implications are tremendous.  These search engines literally control who's business gets the exposure, giving almost direct hands on the controls for manipulating cashflows.  Whether they are steering or not - they have that ability - and that alone is a reason to seek change.

We need an even playing field where businesses prosper based on their merits, products, services and customer networks.

The fight for fair exposure and economic equality online must continue...

The goals and ideology of TSN are still essentially the same as way back in 1998, though currently I'm only one person.  TSN will need real support if things are ever going to change.

Please support our Patreon - tell others and let's change the online world - nothings happened in 10 years and it's going to take something like TSN to kick off some sort of change for the better online!

ABOUT ME:

I'm a web developer, programmer and digital marketer with 20 years experience.  I've experienced the best and worst of the Internet industry - from dizzy highs and cashflow, to crashes and cyber attacks - it's been a long road since I first logged online in 1996 - and the journey is far from over!  I've seen the Internet at it's best, and how a free and open commercial web works...

Unfortunately the monetisation of the 'internet information flow', inadequate user features on 'search engines', and simple greed has killed the fair commercial experience online for a lot of industries.

I belive the internet can be much more than it currently is - the commercial web should be for the benefit of all, and not just those who can pay to win.  The current 'search and social' system keeps a vast majority of the 'commercial web' being seen at all - instead serving up only what is popular and what makes the search provider the most money.

TRANSAPARENCY:

The Streets Network is a small private company.  I am the principal and only (unpaid) Director / employee / programmer / everyman.  This Patreon page is a testiment to my goals and conviction behind everything TSN represents. This view and stance has not changed in 20 years.

I believe I can achieve these goals with enough common sense grass roots support.  I just need the money, which allows for the time, which allows for progress!

FOR THE RECORD:
I belive that transparency in business, especially when providing public and business services, is of utmost importance.  Trust must be earned and maintained.  Transparency is key.

It's pretty simple - I need money to live on while I code, keeping in mind the network is not about making money, but about providing a community driven platform that benefits the community.

The network needs money to pay the bills and have another person helping.  This is the bare minimum.  I've done it before and know it can be done again.

With a base level of support we should be able to keep this a free service for all.

Patreon / Supporters 'Badges':
There will be some sort of acknowledgement for supporting members visible on the network - though support will not influence business rankings, exposure rates or access.  I am thinking of some type of badge or supporting member highlight.

What if Patreon is not enough?
If Patreon alone can't support the network - and we do reach a 3.0 launch, there will probably need to be some sort of small fee for non Patreon business members.  The fee would have to be something the local lawnmower business can afford and not give a second thought about - ever.

This all remains to be seen.  Either way, transparancy will always be key.

Every Patreon allows me to spend a little more time working on 3.0
For me to work full-time on TSN and cover current server and running expenses (I'm working full time elsewhere to pay the bills) about $10,000 / month is needed. Transparency.   Basically every $5 allows me to work 5-10 minutes on TSN and make ends meet.

FOR THE FUTURE:
I have a lot of interesting ideas to explore, develop and test.  One idea I hope to eventually make a reality, is to deploy a de-centralised data model for TSN - a system where every user owns their own data, and have the option to control who they share this data with and even where their personal data is stored.

The idea is that there will be no single place where a hacker can access everyone's information. Only those who they literally give a key to can view any personal information.

This means each user has the option to completely own their own data and interactions. This insures that no 1 person or company has access to or controls the entire network.

If a business or user wants to be removed from the network they simply disconnect their data - like unplugging a power cord from it's socket.

I have some really cool ideas and solutions waiting to be developed and tested.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT & FEEDBACK:
Directly involving businesses and community directly with development of such a radical, distruptive and ambitious online web project, has never been done before (that I'm aware of).

I do know that with enough of us chipping in, and contributing to the end result, it will be something absolutely amazing and will achieve it's core goals.

I hope you can see the need for what I'm building, and have faith in this project.

If you get what I've been on about, and think that it's possible, and can afford to lend your support it would be most welcome.  It wouldn't take that many people to reach the $20,000 / month goal and really get things happening.  I may try a GoFundMe - though for me, it's better to progress at the rate of funding instead of getting a big chunk to have to manage and spend over time.

Anyhow, if you are able to help spread the word about TSN, this Patreon and what we're trying to achieve for the community, it would make the world of difference.  This is just the starting point.

RECAPPING THE GOALS:
No more pay to win, no more hidden secret keyword algorithms, no more link popularity contests, no more "seo", no more sneaky data collection, just a really easy to use co-operative online business and consumer network where everyone can connect and prosper based on their merits and not the size of their bank account.

Many thanks for taking the time to read all this and I look forward to connecting with you on The Streets Network!
