About Erik Dennison

"Anytime in radio that you can reach someone on an emotional level, you're really connecting"
Casey Kasem

Connecting is what it is all about. Finding your tribe in this vast musical wasteland while dancing to the beat of a different drum. It's that moment when you realize that someone else feels exactly the same as you.

From as far back as I can remember, music for me has always been about the true artists that create with purpose and meaning! Although they span across all genres, my personal feelings are that some of the greatest songwriters and musicians reside under the alternative umbrella. My hope is to create a place for true music fans to come together. With your help, this could be something unique to call your own. A show that centers around a community that cares about preserving the past while reaching for their next new favorite record.

As for what to expect, look for news and updates on Classic Alternative artists from above and below the radar along with the new artists that speak the same language. Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Cure, New Order, Ramones, Stone Roses, The The, Ocean Blue, Pixies, and Wolfsheim could all make regular appearances in our discussion. Equally, RAC, Jagwar Ma, M83, and The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart will be right at home here as well. This will be an open canvas that we construct together. Some weeks we may include your calls. Others, we may have a short interview with your favorite classic artists, or new artists that you need to know about. Regardless, it will always be about informing, entertaining, building our community, and above all…the MUSIC.

Please take a moment to look over the supporter levels and rewards. Know that any amount that you give is deeply appreciated. Your commitment to funding the dream means the world to me.

Getting back behind the mic has been a goal of mine since the day we exited terrestrial airwaves. The timing is right. Let's carve out our own little space left of the dial.

About The Ups and Downs:

The show is an extension of my radio show (Sunday Night Vinyl) on WTKS 104.1FM in Orlando, Florida. SNV (founded in 1994) is a music program focusing on classic alternative from the late 70's through the early 90's, along with some new music that fits the feel. On it, I focus on playing heavy doses of listener requests, and drop little bits of music news between the songs.
"The Ups and Downs" spawned out of a desire to put more emphasis on the news events of the week, and to provide a short podcast to Patreon supporters as a "thank you" for helping to fund SNV. My wife injects humor on the stories and makes every attempt to reference Lin Manuel-Miranda, and the Broadway musical Hamilton at each opportunity...whether they exist or not. Having her own theater company, my wife throws me to the stage each week during the "Dramarama" segment, where she has me read a script blindly with varying results.

To further appease my wife's waning attention span, I rotate between classic alternative news and interesting stories that I think will hold her attention. From there, we run through upcoming concerts and new music reissues, and attempt to make each other laugh with "Shower Thoughts" from Reddit. We close out the show with what Hamilton lyric spoke to me that week (insert eye roll here).
$488.42 of $1,000 per month
When we reach $1,000 a month, I will set up a party on the first month that we achieve it for supporters in the Central Florida area, and DJ a list put together by you!
