About

Thanks so much for checking out my Patreon page and for supporting The Vincast Wine Podcast with The Intrepid Wino.

My name is James Scarcebrook, and I’ve worked in the wine industry in Victoria since 2004. Over my career I’ve had many different roles, I have a Masters degree in Wine Business from the University of Adelaide, and I love talking about wine. In late 2011 I embarked on a 16-month trip around the world to visit wine regions to learn as much as I could, and on my travels I became a lover of podcasts.

I started The Vincast in September 2013 and since then I have released 160 episodes and counting. There were several reasons I wanted to start a podcast about wine, first and foremost because at the time there wasn’t one in Australia and I saw this as a great opportunity to tap into a new and growing medium. I also liked the format of a podcast to better engage with an audience, as they are essentially listening to a conversation without any other distraction.

On each episode of the podcast I chat with someone who works in some capacity in the wine industry (and sometimes alongside it) about their background and influences, and how they play into what they do. My intention was to make wine less formal, less technical and more approachable, by interviewing people in a more casual way. I’ve been fortunate to speak with both established and well respected guests, as well as future greats.

So why after seven years have I launched Patreon page to allow the listeners to support me in some small way? The Vincast has been and always will be absolutely free to listen to and enjoy – I do it because I love it and it’s a great way to get to know people – but it has taken some investment in equipment and time. For the majority of the podcasts life I was gainfully emplyed as a sales representative for wine importers, but in April 2020 due to the impacts of COVID-19 that changed. Whilst the extra time has allowed me to record more episodes around helping care for my two young sons, I am left without an income to support my family.

So if you can spare a small amount each month you will be helping me to continue bringing fantastic guests to a broader audience. As a patron you will also receive some fantastic behind-the-scenes content, have an opporunity to ask your own questions of the guests, get access to episodes before everyone else does, and much more!
