About Richard "RJ" Eskow

The Zero Hour with RJ Eskow is a weekly radio and TV program that explores new developments in politics, economics, science, culture and activism.

Established in 2014, it is a one-hour television program, a syndicated radio show, and a podcast. It reaches an estimated 1 million viewers and listeners each week.

The host and managing editor is Richard (RJ) Eskow, one of America’s leading progressive journalists. He has served as a chief writer and editor for the 2016 Bernie Sanders campaign; a Fortune 500 healthcare executive; a student activist; an economic consultant in more than 20 countries; a songwriter and a musician.

Guests have included Senators Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown, and Tammy Baldwin; leading House members; economists and academics (including three Nobel Prize winners); whistleblowers, including Daniel Ellsberg; radical activists and thinkers throughout the world; the presidents of the AFL-CIO, the Association of Flight Attendants, Communication Workers of America, and the American Federation of Government Employees; and working people who face and fight unfair labor conditions all over the world. The Zero Hour has also discovered and promoted new, young progressive thinkers early in their careers, helping them become the voices and leaders that are shaping the future.

Why is it called “The Zero Hour”? Because humanity is at a turning point and must act now. From economic inequality to the future of evolution, from spiritual upheaval to endless war, from the fate of democracy to the survival of the planet itself—this is The Zero Hour. The Zero Hour practices advocacy journalism, which means it expresses opinions but is committed to getting the facts right.

The format includes in-depth interviews; monologues; and occasional special features. The team also includes Executive Producer Troy Miller, formerly of the Thom Hartmann Program, as well as a range of professionals from Social Security Works, the show’s primary sponsor. The Zero Hour has viewers and listeners in all 50 states and throughout the world. It occupies a weekly prime-time Eastern slot on Free Speech TV, a cable and satellite channel that reaches 39.7 million homes. The broadcast radio program is heard in Chicago (home of our flagship station, WCPT), the San Francisco Bay Area, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New Orleans, and elsewhere. It is also an iTunes podcast and YouTube channel.
