Who Am I?
Greetings, patrons. My name is Thomas Castle and I need your help.

I'm 25 years old and I've been writing and working on various stories and ideas for over a decade. Most of that is not public, as it was either for hobby purposes or just not very good. I'd like to change that with the Sorrows Of Blackwood franchise, starting with Solemn Graces.

About My Stories
My current focus is Solemn Graces, a long-term serial drama that serves as the backbone of a larger franchise. Taking inspiration mostly from supernatural and Gothic horror stories, Solemn Graces stars a witch by the name of Grace Morgan, who discovers the dark and foreboding town of Grimstead hiding away in Blackwood Forest. This terrifying town is a world where nightmares and superstitions are real and where supernatural mysteries pop up on a daily basis. Grace takes it upon herself to investigate them - with a little help from her partner, a local gravedigger known as Gallo Belgrave, who loves horror stories and wants nothing more than to be dead himself.

As stated, Solemn Graces is intended to be the first story in Sorrows Of Blackwood, a franchise of ensemble character dramas set in a secluded valley called Inglenook. More series will come if Solemn Graces proves successful, and several of them are already planned out. While each one will have its own tone and setting within the Inglenook, all of them will be largely character-driven and set against the backdrop of an urban fantasy world where sorcery is commonplace and everyday and you're just as likely to find your next door neighbor slinging spells at gophers as you are to drive down to the store to pick up a carton of milk.

Each series in the franchise is formatted like a television series - grouped into "seasons" of 10 stories each, which will usually be 3 to 5 chapters long. It should provide a good and easily digestible length, both from a reading and writing perspective. At the moment, Solemn Graces is my focus because it's where the whole story starts and I just don't have the time to focus my writing on anything else right now. However, once it gets rolling and proves successful, I can start thinking about lending focus on the other series as well!

You can find out more about Solemn Graces, as well as Sorrows Of Blackwood, on the Instagram and Tumblr pages! If you'd like to chat directly with me or other fans, why not join the Discord server?

Where You Come In
So what do I need Patreon for? Basically, so I can focus on writing and publishing these stories and turn it into my full-time job. Pledging to Solemn Graces means that:
  • I'll be able to afford fancy cover art to publish each completed serial with.
  • I'll be able to produce useful marketing materials such as brochures and flyers and those pesky Twitter ads.
  • I'll be able to survive and stuff and still have time to produce entertainment for all of you.
Isn't that exciting? But, you may be asking, what do you get out of it all? Well, keep reading! Under the current system, you'll be pledging per chapter of each individual Solemn Graces story as I release them serially to you, as well as any other little short I come up with - which means that, not only will each chapter help finance a completed, all-in-one publication at the end of the story, but I'll also be able to get live in-progress feedback from potential fans! That in turn will help me make this story into the masterpiece I've always dreamed it to be.

(Note: Depending on how many patrons I get, I might change this system up a bit in the future. For now, though, it's what works out the best for me.)

Each and every patron will receive a coupon code so you don't have to make another purchase just to get your own copy of the completed release.

For the dangerously curious among you, this is your chance to peel back the veil and cast a special question into the Great Beyond for the spirits of those long past to answer. No matter their response, I shall compile and document them in a video following the conclusion of each moth. In order to begin the seance, you'll need to deliver your question to me in an email or comment.

Includes

  • Discount code for each serial
  • Name on acknowledgements page

  • Submit a question for Q&A video
Stage Three: Rigor Mortis
$10 or more per chapter 0 patrons
Perhaps you have your own gruesome tale or horrible dream you've long wished to see written down, but just cannot bring yourself to do it on your own. If this be so, then you now have the monthly misfortune of being able to request a short story or submit an idea for one. Only one request per patron per month will be fulfilled, so use this unfortunate opportunity wisely - and do ensure it follows the rules set on my commissions page.

Includes
  • Discount code for each serial
  • Name on acknowledgements page
  • Special role on Discord server
  • Submit a question for Q&A video
  • One free short story request
Goals
$10 of $100 per chapter
My cover artist's fees are between 50 to 70 dollars per cover, which I currently don't have the funds to keep paying for...but now I can, thanks to you! Getting upwards of $100 per chapter means I can comfortably acquire and present cover art for each serial's final release. That'll make Solemn Graces look all fancy. Isn't that nice?
