Hi, I'm Tim. I make things using the collections of libraries, archives and museums. Some of these things, like QueryPic or Historic Hansard, are serious research tools. Other things, like The Real Face of White Australia or redacted, have a political point. And then there's the weird stuff, like The Vintage Face Depot.

I hope that some of the things I make will be of interest to you – they're meant to be used. I also hope they'll help you to see cultural heritage collections in new ways, to ask difficult questions, to feel differently.

But seeing and using isn't enough. There is power in these technologies. There are stories that need to be told in these collections. You don't have to wait. You don't have accept what you're given. You too can start making important, critical, stupid or creepy things – and I want to help.

Pretty much all my work is public by default – I share code and data, I give talks and workshops, I write blog posts and tutorials. This isn't going to change. You'll always have access to my work whether you support me here or not.

But become a supporter and you'll have a chance to shape what I do through feedback and suggestions. Help me decide what to work on next. Tell me what features you want me to add. Suggest topics for tutorials, and names for new tools (I suck at names...). You'll also get  previews of work-in-progress.

I'm planning to start a new series of how-to guides under the title 101 Digital Heritage Hacks That You Can Do At Home. They'll be practical, informative, and fun. I'm aiming for one a month to start, but there could be more if things take off.

I'm hoping that with your support I'll be able to spend more time making, sharing, and teaching. So if you've used one of my tools, learnt from one of my workshops, or just think what I do is worthwhile, you might like to pitch in.

Goals
$312 of $500 per month
My initial goal is to cover the costs of hosting my growing collection of tools, sites, and resources. Most are pretty cheap to run, but some require a bit of extra grunt, and the costs eventually pile up. This will enable me to make sure existing projects keep running smoothly and encourage me to create lots more stuff!
