About Taralei Griffin
My name is Taralei - but if that's too complicated, you can call me Tara.
I'm an independent journalist, rideshare driver, and nerd, living in Nashville, Tennessee, with my dog, Layla, and a host of houseplants named after Marvel & Harry Potter characters. I have been writing about local musicians since December 2012, and reporting on politics and human rights since April 2016.
Inspired by the inspired, in January 2018, I founded Meridian Creators. It is an online publication focused on sharing the stories of artists of all mediums who are working to effect real change on the world. I am working to expand Meridian Creators beyond the artists I interview in Middle Tennessee, and be able to hire independent journalists in other cities who will write about artists local to them. This Patreon is focused on making sure I have the funding to continue growing Meridian Creators.
Helping others share their stories is something that has always been a passion of mine.
Whether it's creative people who want to share their art and what drives it with a wider audience, or citizens of a community fighting corruption in the government who want the rest of the world to know what is happening, I want to be there to listen and help get the truth out. Moving forward, I will be focusing on lifting the voices of creative people in communities across the nation, as well as getting the truth out about Southern US politics and human rights.
If you subscribe to my Patreon, you will be able to help me do this on a wider scale.
My only source of income is driving for Uber & Lyft. Being able to pay for my bills in order to keep a roof over my head and food in my stomach means I have to spend most of my time in the car, working. I would love to be able to spend more time on my reporting, supporting local artists by sharing their stories, and holding the local government accountable with independent, on-the-ground, investigative reporting. Having Patrons would grant me more time to do this.
By contributing to my Patreon, you will be helping me free up time that is necessary for me to focus on growing my new publication & provide more independent, fact-based political coverage.
Need a little extra motivation to donate? If you become a Patron of any amount, you will be able to read all Meridian Creators articles without dealing with the partial paywall currently in place, as well as receive access to exclusive, Patron-only, behind-the-scenes updates and messages from the featured artists, and updates on the occasional upcoming investigative reports. While any amount is appreciated, please check out the tiers listed off to the side to see what extras you can receive for $5 or more a month! While I am motivated to do this, I can't do it alone - I need and appreciate supporters like you!!!
Not only will you be supporting creativity & truth, but you will also be helping to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. I pledge to donate 20% of what I earn each year to the National MS Society. At the end of the year, out of that 20%, 10% will be going to the Mid South Chapter, and 10% will be going to the Gateway Chapter.
In order to grow Meridian Creators' reach as well as spread Multiple Sclerosis awareness, I took Meridian Creators on tour in Fall 2018! I drove the Great River Road, starting at the headwaters in Minnesota and ending in St. Louis, Missouri, and will be returning to St. Louis in April 2019 to complete the journey to Venice, Louisiana! This road trip spans more than 3,000 miles, and I have been interviewing creative people and exploring communities all along the Mississippi River. Once I have completed the journey, I will also complete my first book - THE GREAT MEANDER, available Summer 2019!
Stay tuned! I've got more great things coming your way.
