I’m Tony Dowler, and I'm making How to Host a Dungeon, a solo game of dungeon creation and drawing maps.

Who are you again?

I’m Tony Dowler, a Seattle-based artist, writer, and game designer. I created he Seattle Doomsday Map and have illustrated for a bunch of games, including Dungeon World and Action Castle. I've also made a few games, such as Isotope and Blacktop

What is How to Host a Dungeon?

How to Host a Dungeon, now in its second edition, is a dungeon building game. In How to Host a Dungeon, you simulate the growth of a great megadungeon from the dawn of time through rising and falling civilizations, warring monsters, great evils and empires that threaten the world.

Why am I doing this?

Patreon enables me to dedicate more time and effort to this project. I have a full-time job, and I support a family. Thanks to Patreon, I am able to take one day a week away from that job and spend it in my studio working on How to Host a Dungeon.

That’s the first reason. The second reason is that with Patreon I’m connected with the people who are most interested in my work. If no one’s interested in what I’m doing, I lose interest too. Making things for people and seeing them used is a huge reward.

I've got this awesome unheated, unwired shed in my back yard. Once I hit this level, I'm going to start refurbishing the shed into a proper studio space instead of putting a leaf in my kitchen table and working there at 6am. I'll insulate and wire the shed and put a heater in there so I can work in the winter time. I'll also be able to play my tunes out loud and maybe do some livestream drawing sessions.
