I’m Tony Dowler, and I love to make maps.
Most of all, I love to make maps of dungeons.

About a while back, I made How to Host a Dungeon, a solo dungeon creation game. A lot of people enjoyed it, and still do. Now I’m making How to Host a Dungeon V2. Along the way I also plan to make a lot of new drawings and maps. This Patreon will help support this work.

Who are you again?

I’m Tony Dowler, a Seattle-based artist, writer, and game designer. I have illustrated for several games, such as Dungeon World and Blossoms are Falling. I’ve also written a few. Some of them are in the archives of this Patreon, like Isotope and Blacktop. I also created the Seattle Doomsday Map, a successful Kickstarter project, and I’m the President of GO Play NW, an indie tabletop gaming convention in Seattle.

What is How to Host a Dungeon v2?

How to Host a Dungeon V2 is the new version of my solo dungeon building game. In How to Host a Dungeon, you simulate the growth of a great megadungeon from the dawn of time through rising and falling civilizations, waves of monsters and adventurers, and great evils that threaten the world.

How to Host a Dungeon V2 will add way more monsters, civilizations, and horrors, new rooms, locations, and mysteries, new mechanics and art. As a Patreon, you will get access to the newest versions as they are created.

Why am I doing this?

Patreon enables me to dedicate more time and effort to this project. I have a full-time job, and I support a family. Thanks to Patreon, I am able to take one day a week away from that job and spend it in my studio working on How to Host a Dungeon.

That’s the first reason. The second reason is that with Patreon I’m connected with the people who are most interested in my work. If no one’s interested in what I’m doing, I lose interest too. Making things for people and seeing them used is a huge reward.

I've got this awesome unheated, unwired shed in my back yard. Once I hit this level, I'm going to start refurbishing the shed into a proper studio space instead of putting a leaf in my kitchen table and working there at 6am. I'll insulate and wire the shed and put a heater in there so I can work in the winter time. I'll also be able to play my tunes out loud and maybe do some livestream drawing sessions.
