INTRODUCTION
Sam Spruce is my Nom de Grrr and Toxic Drums is a conceptual conduit for creative expression. This Patreon platform exists primarily to facilitate and disseminate my abstract and non-narrative audio visual work.

CONTEXT
Since the beginning of the 20th Century there has been an explosion in the variety and diversity of communication media. Correspondingly this has instigated an incomprehensible expansion of both the language and the content of human communication.

John and James Whitney are often cited as founding figures in the field of computer animation. They are perhaps better described as the instigating catalyst for the diverse audio visual cacophony of modern media communication. Their influence can be directly traced through to works as diverse as Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi, Lauri Anderson's Oh Superman, Disney's Toy Story and Thorsten Fleisch's title sequence for the film Enter the Void.

The range and complexity of modern communication is simply mind boggling. Linguistic philosopher Noam Chomsky's theory of Universal Grammar suggests that our cognitive constructs are 'hard wired' in our brains. French philosopher Jean Baudrillard suggests there is nothing left but the simulated construct of existence; his seminal work Simulacra and Simulation inspired the Wachowskis' film The Matrix which, in turn, is almost iconised with the already classic "abstract non-narrative" computer dripping glyph sequence.

Marshall McLuhan's famous quote "The medium is the message" is possibly more profound than it is given credit. It is my contention that the current proliferation of audio visual communications is the manifestation of the substance of our self conscious existence.

OBJECTIVES
Primarily I will be creating abstract non-narrative visuals. These can vary from sublime ambient meditative beauty to wretched fearful fractured migraine-inducing hell holes to oblivion. I will also write about my work; both how and why I do what I do, and where it relates to the broader field of experimental art and philosophy. My work rarely stands alone and I am always seeking collaboration.

PLASTICO MUNDO
Plastico Mundo, as featured here, is generally available for viewing by all and a (subtly improved) variation will soon be available for subscribers to my Patreon venture. Within a week or three of launching this account I will be releasing a pièce de résistance of sublime beauty. It is a collaboration between myself and the inimitable Ian Burden. It is entitled Novo Cognato and features a pre-release version of Thy Kingdom from Ian's latest album. (Yes, I am name dropping, and if Brian Eno or Roger Waters grovel at my door asking to collaborate with me I will drop their names too.)

FINALLY
Please remember that all of the work published on this account is copyrighted whether it is on the public blog or the Patreon only blog. My Patreon supporters are effectively purchasing copies of everything I release to them on this platform and are free to download material and even share it amongst friends but it is not good form to post it in any public space without my consent or to attempt to privately profit from it. All collaborative material I post here will only be done with the consent and agreement of the artists involved.

You are cordially invited to indulge, enjoy, and learn from my creative endeavours.  Please feel free to bookmark or follow Toxic Drums. Much of the material produced is free to view. Subscribers will get email notification of all posts and exclusive access to various creations depending upon the subscription tier.

Namaste.

Both of the above plus a very attentive ear and some openness to the possibility of requesting stuff. It's early days and anything specific will have to be determined over time. It will also afford, upon request, a little more information about me, my past, and advanced info on current and intended productions.

All of the above plus public accreditation of your support if you wish. You also get personal access (via email initially) to my inner soul. (Yes I'm a whore.)

You get it all, plus I'll even take you out for dinner (if you're not too far away).
