About Tracy Grammer

Hello friends! Thanks so much for visiting my Patreon site. I am honored that you're considering supporting me here.

If you don't already know me, I'm Tracy Grammer, nationally-touring singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, writer, storyteller, and actor living in Greenfield, Massachusetts. I've spent the last 24 years performing at festivals, coffeehouses and small theaters around the country, paying tribute to the late Dave Carter and performing my own songs as well. I've toured with Joan Baez, recorded with Mary Chapin Carpenter, traveled the world, and found a second family among fans and fellow performers thanks to my life in music. It's true every day: I am one lucky folksinger.

But even lucky folksingers have their demons. It's actually taken me about three years to launch this Patreon community. One of the biggest obstacles I face in my creative life is perfectionism; dancing alongside perfectionism is a gut-twisting mortification at the prospect of asking for support of any kind. So I begin in a vulnerable place -- as all artists must -- with every single one of my inner children freaking out at what we're about to do here, while up in the corner shines this giddy little star, assuring me that some really cool and unexpected stuff is waiting around the bend: all I have to do is take the first step. (And if this isn't the artists' leap in a nutshell, I don't know what is. Every creative endeavor feels like this at the beginning.)

Courage, then! To the ask!

Artists need support at every stage of the creative process, and building a Patreon community is a way for me to generate consistent income as I set my sights on long- and short-term projects. Your pledge is energy: it's a vote, it's a fist-bump, it screams f*ck-yes-girl-get-it-done! Because you believe in me. You support my dreams, my experiments, my growth, my path, and my process, and this makes me bold enough, and brave enough, to use this space experimentally: to share fresh work; raw ideas; musical sketches; stuff that's rough but beautiful in its own way; and to offer transparency and honesty, since making art isn't always pretty and it's almost never easy. It helps folks to hear that sometimes; I know it would help the perfectionist in me to be more open about this as well.

These are the values informing this space: this is what I'm cultivating here: Vulnerability. Sustainability. Creativity. Community. Accountability. Transparency. Play. Productivity. Experimentation. Collaboration. Flow. Flexibility. Freedom. Fun. Finishing.

And these are the 2022 projects you're supporting -- and the perks you will receive -- when you join my Patreon community:

Words: I've been working on a memoir for approximately 100 years. I'd love to start sharing excerpts, either as posts or recordings. "Airing out" the words seems to be critical in maintaining my momentum, especially as I get into revision. You can also expect life/work updates and other musings and meditations as time and inspiration allow.

Dave & Tracy Archives: There are boxes of materials from the Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer days -- CDs, photos, videos, set lists -- that need to be digitized, reviewed, archived, and shared. With enough support, I can immerse myself in these materials while I work on the memoir, which isn't possible when I'm on the road. This will help me write a better book.

Recordings:
I anticipate there will be ample gems in the archives worth sharing. I have a list of cover songs long as my arm that I've been meaning to demo. I wrote several new songs from RealWomenRealSongs3 that I want to polish for a new album. And I'd love to make videos for "Good Life," "Hole," and "Were You Ever Here." Whatever I create, you'll hear it or see it first. Chances are you'll see it come together. How fun is that?

Community: Patreon gives us a place for real-time exchanges and virtual events. I'd love to hear what would make this fun for YOU. Some ideas: question-and-answer sessions, patron-only concerts, and a monthly Zoom gathering where I offer a prompt (or a "portal" as Lidia Yuknavitch says) and we write. This is your creative time, you choose what to work on, and we can chat about it after. Sound fun? It does to me :).

Regardless of which tier you choose, you get access to everything. If the lowest tier is the most available to you, that's awesome; if you are comfortable with a higher level, also awesome. Remember, you can change or customize your pledge at any time. I'm just happy you're here.

My fan family is the best in the world and I am delighted to have you as part of this community. Thanks for joining me!
