An scéal faoi fhear faobhair agus a chrainn dhúchasacha.

The story of one man's mission to preserve the native trees of Ireland.

A naíonra is an Irish-language nursery or playschool. My naíonra is for trees.

I'm an ordinary Dubliner who, not too long ago, decided to start liberating, growing and saving Irish trees. I came to this decision when I noticed that land which had been left idle for decades had started to become forest again - forest which was mortally threatened by the new planning permission signs erected on these sites, thanks to Ireland's resurgent construction industry.

Now, I grab seedlings and saplings wherever I see them in places where they will not be allowed to grow to maturity. After a brief stint in the Traíonra, I donate them to anyone who will give them a 'forever home'.

To date, I've saved and germinated hundreds of trees of almost all native Irish species. Most of them have found permanent homes!

The Irish ecosystem is crumbling and climate change threatens all of us. Not everyone has the time or ability to actively do something. What you can do is help me to work on behalf of you and of the wildlife of Ireland!

Despite pouring my heart and soul into Traíonra, I haven't had the time or energy to create a proper online presence. I want that to change.

You get to name a tree. I'll create a little plaque with its name and give it its own pot. When transplanted, its name will stay with it and I will provide you with a 'Certificate of Liberation', indicating its name, species, date of liberation, date of planting and permanent location.

I use only reclaimed materials.

First dibs on trees that you would like to take for yourself, within reason. By sourcing from me instead of a shop, you can be assured that they do not come from a commercial nursery and that no land-clearing or carbon-emitting machinery was involved.

I can deliver within Dublin by bicycle.
