Hi there! I'm Byron and I’m the creator of Tripline, on the web at tripline.net and in the iTunes and Google Play app stores.  You can read more about the Tripline story here: tripline.net/about/

I've been working on Tripline for many years now all by myself.  I do all of the product design, software engineering, infrastructure and user support.  It's hard work, and I only have nights and weekends to do it, but it's a labor of love for me, and I'm passionate about keeping it going.  Over the years Tripline has grown to over 500K registered users all over the world who have created hundreds of thousands of maps.  There are vacationers, adventurers, honeymooners, gap-year students, motorcyclists, a huge #vanlife community, teachers and students, and hundreds of tour operators using Tripline to market their trips.  All of this is fantastic to see, because these are the ways I imagined the product would be used when I built it.

So far, I've been paying to operate Tripline out of my own pocket, mostly for hosting on Amazon and other operational expenses.  This has been sustainable for a while, and the advertising I placed on the site this year has helped cover some of the costs, but in May, Google announced a massive price increase for their Google Maps APIs, which Tripline uses extensively.  When I say "massive price increase", I'm not kidding.  They raised the prices for Google Maps by more than 1,400% with less than 2 months notice.  On July 16, Tripline's costs for using Google Maps is going to go from less than $100/month to over $4,500/month.  These prices are more than 10x higher than their competitors, and substantially more than what I pay monthly for all of the Tripline server infrastructure on Amazon.

So, I'm going to be migrating Tripline off of Google Maps onto a different mapping platform called MapBox, which is a great service with some incredible features that will allow me to make Tripline even better.  But it's not free, so I need your help to keep Tripline going.

After the maps migration, I have a roadmap of amazing features that I've been planning for many months, and I can't wait to get started.  You can look forward to distance & time for each leg of your journeys, metric measurements, high-quality downloadable map images, easier ways to invite people to join your maps, better social integration, improved checkins on mobile and much more.

Please support me on Patreon with a monthly pledge to help cover costs and fund future development.

Thanks for your support.

I’m not offering a tiered reward system at the moment.  Instead, I’m asking you to make a monthly pledge at whatever level you can afford to keep Tripline going.  You can pledge just $1 per month, or you can pledge more — it's up to you!
