We all look through different social media websites seeing these beautiful, finished pieces. But we rarely see the process it took to get there. We miss the mistakes, failed design decisions and messy sketch phases which can lead us to over-think our process, resulting in feeling unready to share our work causing frustration and a lack of confidence.

The truth is, every artist's work starts out unsure. "Should an arm go here? How should this mountain look? This sketch sucks!" That's okay, its a part of the process but we want to show people our best side and hide everything else.

Do you sometimes feel like you can't share something until it's perfect but "perfect" never comes? I know I do, so I thought it would be helpful to share my process. Every step. Every "bad" sketch and tiny thumbnail scribble.

This Patreon is to help you (and me) feel better about how we work and feel proud to share the actual work in progress. Give people a backstage pass to how you create.

A Little About Me:

My name is Tristen Grant, I'm a freelance illustrator from a small town in Manitoba, Canada. Right now I'm working part-time at my local newspaper while trying to break into editorial illustration (think magazines, newspapers and blogs). So far this is a struggle but I hope to share my successes, failures and thoughts on this as well.

I work digitally using Affinity Designer and sometimes sketch using Leonardo. Like many, I used to draw using pen and paper but found myself wanting to eliminate the need to rebuy supplies and store used sketchbooks. Going fully digital seemed to make the most sense for this. I'm thinking of getting an iPad Pro + Apple Pencil to use as a digital sketchbook for when I feel lazy and don't want to sit at my Desktop.

Keeping the Patreon super simple... one Tier!

For $1.00 a month Gain access to the Patreon-only posts where I share my full illustration process. See my messy thumbnail sketches, any time-lapse videos or process GIFs, high-resolution PDFs of my final work and anything else I decide to share.

I try to post at least once a month. You can cancel your pledge at any time.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you so much for the help and support! Have a great day! 💜
