What?
True North Photo Journal, Canada's only online platform dedicated exclusively to publishing the country's best photojournalism and documentary photography. Our motto is “better, not breaking”, and we are committed to working with some of the most thoughtful and visually compelling photographers in the country.

When?
Every week we will publish a new photo essays on issues ranging from the fentanyl crisis in B.C. to food security in Nunavut. We also have a team of Canadian photographers working abroad and have published reports from North Korea, Colombia and Somaliland to name just a few.

Who?
Our photo essays come from a well-recognized list of contributors that includes several World Press Photo winners, Eddie Adams alumni, members of some of Canada's top collectives Boreal, Rogue and Kahem, as well as an impressive list of up and coming photographers who are making a name for themselves in the industry.

Why?
In an age of Twitter, Facebook and fake news, media outlets often find themselves clamouring unsuccessfully to be the first to break a story. True North seeks to break that cycle by encouraging photographers to take a more in-depth and nuanced approach to their storytelling. Our motto is “better, not breaking”. You can't photograph what you don't see, so at the very least you know the people creating content for True North are not sitting behind a computer screen all day.

How can you help?
True North Photo Journal was founded with a small grant from the NWT Arts Council. We believe that those who cannot afford subscriptions should not be prevented from viewing True North's content. As such there will never be a paywall for this site.

However, moving forward, the website will be supported through subscriptions from the general public made through Patreon. With your help, our goal is to raise the bar for Canadian media outlets who have ripping off the public by placing profits ahead of their product.

Thanks in advance for your support. Make sure to check out the site @ http://truenorthjournal.ca/
